Minneapolis...

So I am going to Minneapolis for the first time this weekend on business. I plan to stop by and see First Avenue and 7th Street Entry while I am there, but can anybody tell me the exact locations of other Prince-related landmarks that I can scout. I am waiting on the exact address of the hotel so I can map things out...also how far is Chanhassen from Minneapolis? I'm from New York so I have no clue...

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
I'm gonna make you love me...

chanhassen is about 30 minutes from minneapolis. another spot to check out is the property on galpin blvd where his house used to be. all that's left is a little security house. (not much to see there though).

i would recommend going to bunkers in minneapolis on sunday or monday night to hear dr. mambo's combo (they are AWESOME), and if you're lucky prince might show up smile

chanhassen is about 30 mins drive. galpin is just round the corner from paisley. first ave is opposite the target centre and that rock n roll cafe i can't remember the name

checkout bunkers as it has great live music every nite and most nites includes some prince related folks playing

you also have the old npg store, uptown, calhoun square, theres a ton of places

when i first went there i met a guy who wrote for uptown and he had the most detailed list of everyone from where prince was concevied to born, the schools, the houses, the very early live venues, you name it, and we got in a car with someone from mpls and visited them all. if only i can find that list, it's like a prince stalkers paradise

but with a bit of googling and google maps its easy to find it all and mapquest it up

mpls is a great place to hang out. if you like kevin smith then head along from paisley to the eden prairie mall where mallrats was filmed

The Hard Rock Cafe (right across the street from First Avenue) has a kind of nice Prince exhibit. It's not in the main restaurant. Go upstairs like you're going to go to the skyway and you'll see it.

Just google stuff.

The old Glam Slam is at 110 N. Fifth Street, but I forget the name.
First Avenue is on .....1st Avenue & 7th Street Entry, across from the Target Center.
Uptown is an area, but the heart of it is at Calhoun Square, on W. Lake, and Hennepin. (A block or two over is the Uptown theater, reminding you of your localtion).
The old NPG store is on W. Lake, right across from Calhoun Square.
Paisley Park is where it always stood.
Find directions to Galpin Ave, it's about a mile from PP, and is the site of Prince's former home. (It's the property w/ a guard house out front.)
There's also the property on Kiowa Trail. Both homes have been torn down (which still begs the question - where is Prince living?)
Lake of the Isles is close to the Uptown area.

Remember, a lot of those outside scenes (downtown) in Purple Rain were filmed in Los Angeles, not Minneapolis. (I actually saw the Huntington Hotel - aka Apollonia's place - in a film the other day. Might have been Daybreakers or something). In short, you won't find The Taste, or the hotel, etc. Lake Minnetonka is not where that scene was film. It was actually two places. Apollonia going in the water, is different than the location where she comes out of the water (the latter being Los Angeles months later).

I think someone has/had the address of the parent's house. Prince's hold high school is no more, I believe (Central?). One or both of the infamous Warehouses are gone too.

I just wish there was some way to link all the computers into the world into a system --a web if you will--of data and information that was a world wide source for accessing data and information.

We should do that!!! I can compile it, and perhaps a Mod can add it to the FAQ section on the Org, if it's not already there.

Luv4u, how about it? I'll write it up w/ folks help, and you can let us know if it's possible to put it on here somewhere, even if we start a thread that can later be referenced, or a forever sticky?

The old Glam Slam is now called EPIC.
Central is still there but it is now an elementary school.

Hmmm, I thought one of his schools was torn down.

I couldn't remember what The Quest had changed into. EPIC sounds right, thanks.

The only one left is Paisley Park. I remember Prince geeks trying to make a PRince tour of the city during Xenophobia. THey paid huge taxi fares to see old locations that were gone or changed to the point that nothing inicated Prince ever had anyting to do with them. Save your time and money and see the Park - which isnt much to see from the outside it you cant get in.

Highly incorrect.

First Avenue is still there, and has the same name.

Glam Slam is now EPIC, but the club in general is still there, and inside looks the same aesthetically, minus the prince everywhere.

Calhoun Square is still there, and a huge hub for businesses, including an awesome BBQ Rib joint.

Uptown is still there.

The bare property on Kiowa Trail (and the gates I think), and the property on Galpin is still there, we know both homes have been torn down.

Last I knew, Lake of the Isles hadn't dried up yet.

No, why would they? It's a private business, not Graceland. There have never been tours there except during the Celebration openings.

No but at least we can get a peak from the outside and possibly take a phooto of ourselves in fron. Plus, I'd just love to go to Minneapolis sometime. It looks like it would be a great city to visit. wink

I live in Minneapolis and I agree, the sites are still here. It's just not quite the same though, with the NPG store closed, all things Prince out of the old Glam Slam, the houses dust, and so on and so on...but Paisley Park is still cool to see. If I'm out in that area I still have to take a drive by it. cool
