It's deliberately vague to make the lyric more provocative.
It's almost like he's coming out without having to come out.

His first 3 albums would be exceedingly difficult for me to play
to my straight male friends. Most of the songs are falsetta--guys seem
to detest that---my latino and black friends would be more open to
that expression, but not my white friends.

Well, I live in the Southern United States, and it goes a layer deeper. Not only do all males I know consider Prince gay along with his music, but they also consider any man who listens to it gay. Soooo, even though I am a hetero and married with two kids, I remain a closet listener.

I remember one friend opening my CD collection, and there are pages of Prince CD's there, all of them in alphabetical order even. He looked at the collection, and then looked me with a raised eyebrow. I knew then... I knew then.

to a few others here, I've always lived in the south, too. I don't really care what others may think, I'm secure in my sexuality. Even those that do think he's gay and know I like his music know that doesn't make me gay. I may stick to playing funky or hard rocking tracks for friends, but that's not cause other tracks make them think he (and maybe me too) is gay, it's cause guys don't listen to ballads together. That would be gay.

There seems to be a lot of confusion in this thread as to what fey means. There's the definition by a credible source rather than someone using tongue-in-cheek banter on a forum to mask homophobia.

Additionally, this thread is stupid as hell. If you're that insecure and if your "mates" are that insecure, you should seek therapy to try to alleviate your need to objectify people different than you.
