The piano part where Prince is dressed up sort of like a cross between the Vampire Lestat and Marie Antionette and when the audience sings along and Prince pauses then goes... "awwwww...." ...Well, that almost got me my ass kicked.  | |

With my friends it was generally ALL. I did convert a few when i took them to see him live in 2007 and then they all requested compiliations, but way back when I was a nipper I learnt very young that like many things that gave me the most pleasure, it was best done in my room alone | |

I was 16 in 1994. At the time in Wales, everyone was listening to Oasis,
Blur, and other '90's indie rock anthemic bands. Funk was not a generally known genre. In fact, I dare say the only funk band that had gained major recognition amongst my peer group were The Red Hot Chili Peppers. Anyway, at a time when his Royal Badness was busy doing his Gold Era underground funk thing, he was also releasing The Most Beautiful Girl In The World that went straight to the No.1 spot in the U.K. To my misery of course. Because of that single success alone, it became difficult to earn respect from the grunge brigade when I would reveal my love of 'TAFKAP'. The general opinion of Prince amongst my peers was that he was a gay diva - and had no idea that he even played guitar, let alone was a virtuoso! I'm sure other org users roughly my age and coming from the U.K will have similar stories of woe to tell. O+> O+> | |

Then the part where he sings , "Can U listen to me..." and does some super high pitched dog-whistle cry/laugh/yip yip type of thing I get a unanimous, "Dan!!!" from all 3 of my friends.
We eventually had play to Nine Inch Nails.
It seems there are certain Prince records that repel some heterosexual males. Emancipation, LoveSexy, For You---all of them can cause limp dick in that regard. Have you ever tried playing your songs to straight guys? How do they react? It seems a Prince fan has to "get" Prince much like a Smiths fan has to "get" The Smiths to understand the brilliance. And yes, Prince is extremely gay in so many, many ways--but he's also very straight. He's complex.

- I always had the same problem. Or it was the album covers or the falsetto. I have a friend who loved Prince´s version of ´Honky Tonk Women´ but hated the falsetto chorus. And the ballads, I dont even show them...hehehe yeah, folks really don't get the ballads. LOL! | |

I would agree, as a club DJ from '98-'02 it was my most requested Prince track and as much a dance floor filler as Kiss, Erotic City & Gett Off (the other 3 Prince songs I continuously got requests for.) Another DJ I worked with was always trying to get his hands on my gold promo vinyl copy of Gold Experience so he could scratch with it... of course I never let him see it, much less play it/scratch with it. Its as interchangable as head is - head is just slang for oral sex which, as you say, can be performed on both people. "Jack off" is just a euphemism for masturbation and, again, this can be performed on both (and, of course, solo!  )
