Best thing about Te Amo... was the Brit Awards performance of the song. It had some sort of grandeur and style to it, beautiful guitar work by Prince (recalling Santana) and a great band, featuring Sheila E., Wendy & Lisa.
Rest of the performance was brilliant by the way (Fury, Purple Rain, Let's go crazy).

see i never quite understood that. i've listened to the brit performance
and altho it's nice, it sounds rushed and unfinished.

i like the album version a lot more. it's a nice song and i wish that he
would have included that short bit of soundscape in the beginning that
the video has. it makes the song more complete in some way. but i can
see how it woul have probably disrupted the flow of the album a bit.

anyway, nice song. it's understated and sweet. one of those songs that
you might not like all that much to start out with (altho i did) but
which will grow on you and in ten years you still won't have tired of
it. instead you'll hear something you haven't ever heard about it in
the previous spins and go "oh wow, let's put this on repeat for just
a while now".

It's just one smooth song. It has great instrumentation and it one of those Prince songs thats outside the box.

I do not like it, i have played it countless times and it still does nothing for me. It is my least favorite from 3121.
The 'valentine' edition cd & dvd is a nice thing to have though.

I like this song. It is one that a non-Prince fan could like. It is not one of his best, but I like the vibe of it. The video is nice too...
Peace...

I can listen to it now as part of 3121. At the time I think a lot of us were very disappointed it was the lead off "single". Much too MOR at the time. We wanted Black Sweat and "racist" Prince having a pop at white ladies! wink lol
Just somewhere in the middle,
Not too good and not too bad.

Yep, this is one song that non Prince fans always come up to me and say they like, and some of these people are DJ's.
I really think there is a very vocal minority that has put down songs like this and hyped up the crap, and unfortunately i think the Prince camp has listened and the result is the dire state of his music for the past 20 years. Music that neither the original die hard fans or the general public can stand, just the "Lolita" "Jughead" "Gold Experience" "The Rainbow Children" loving vocal minority.
Dumbed down music for a non record buying vocal minority.
When people talk about Prince hurting his legacy, I also think in large part it is also a result of some of the fams helping him on his recent downward spiral.

yeahthat

A pop masterpiece that, like the brilliant album it comes from, never got the exposure it deserved. When the uninformed start talking about how Prince's recent work doesnt measure up to his past glory, I put this on and they shut the fuck up. cool

I have never heard anyone say they love Jughead. And Lolita is generally one of the least liked on 3121.

biggrin There's a brief snippet at the beginning of the song that reminds me of the opening to the Act II part of the Lovesexy show. I like that one second of the song.

Seriously, though, I like 3121 a lot, but Te Amo Corazon is very flat for me. There are Prince songs I love and Prince songs I don't, but Te Amo Corazon is in the incredibly rare category of Prince songs I just find boring.
