I'll also be happy if this proves to be true, but I have my doubts that Prince will go this route a second time. I can't remember how many weeks in advance The Mail on Sunday announced the Planet Earth deal/giveaway back in 2007 but wouldn't we have heard something by about this UK newspaper deal (assuming the release is still going to be June/July AND it's as much of a done deal as you imply?) Deal with uk magazine was set only in the last couple of days. i don't know what's the release date. Also being a veteran fan i can tell you Prince can decide to cancel everything at a flip of a coin. But for now, that's the correct info. June magazines are on the shelves now. As for the The Mail, the PE album was being advertised like crazy(i think more out of the newspapers' excitement of clinching the deal) a few weeks before the release date. Sounds more like the album will be out in July. FUNKNROLL! "February 2014, wow". 'dre.

Regarding the tour - prince had 2 optional dates in israel for the very end of July, during these negotiations it became clear that he has several options in Europe for July-August. The Israel concerts won't happen. Don't know about the rest of Europe but our guy is looking for some of your ticket money this summer. Regarding the album, A VERY good source. Sorry I Can't elaborate. To be fair, all of the original info came from "very good sources" as well and it has all seemingly turned out to be bullshit. I hope your source IS good, but just asking people to be cautious. Without a link to some source there is zero proof. Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it. |

While it's great he may be coming with a new lp. The bigger question is it any good???
The last 3 lps weren't anything to brag about.

Prince renewed trademark ownership of The Family and Mazarati recently too. How can Prince trademark "Mazarati" and "Good Question"??? He had nothing to do with Good Question except signing them on Paisley Park, and Mazarati was Brownmark's pet project, not his. I don't know the specifics of how he CAN (I imagine the bands may have signed over the rights to their name with their original contracts maybe?) - but the fact remains that he HAS done this. The trademark info is there for anyone to see - registered to Paisley Park alongside the new trademarks like Androgynine. |

Well, Prince you've done it now.
Even threads about your new albums can't compete with a photowhore thread in general discussion. In the name of the purple and gold indeed.

It just means that the government moved along with the process. Nothing to do with the Prince camp.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Part of the signing process with Prince probably is that you sign over the rights to the name of your project. It's like with Star Wars all the actors had to sign over the rights to their likenesses to Lucasfilm.

I mean, you either have a new album coming out....or you don't. It's simple as that. What's with all the secrecy and the "disavowment" of knowledge. I swear that "mystery" has been Prince's winning card throughout the decades, and he's still playing it. I'm not really impressed anymore because I'm grown now.
It was confirmed that Sade (although not as big of an artist as Prince) would be releasing a new album almost a year before Soldier of Love came out. I mean I saw fans waiting for 10 years eagerly in anticipation but no big whoopla going on, and no big shroud of secrecy about whether there will be an album or not.
Prince wonder's why some of his fans are the way they are, he should look to his own marketing mechanisms and to his camp for the answers. If he does NOT have an album coming out, he should just have someone "in his camp" squash the rumors and be done with it instead of having people disavow knowledge and "tiptoe" around the issue . Although I'm your biggest fan...I'm also your biggest critic. Can you deal with that?

Not saying you're wrong, but this is how Prince plays the game, we all know that, I don't see it changing any time soon.
(I agree with what you said about some fans BTW).

Let's go back to the speculation about what's most important - the music.
If I remember correctly, Prince reportedly worked with a producer well-known for his work in the indie-rock genre. Although we do know that Prince records permanently and probably could chose between three albums to release every week, I think those news sounded quite promising.
Although I did enjoy the interesting, quirky, progressive Pop sound of Planet Earth and the down-to-earth, psychedelic rockier tunes of Lotusflow3r, I'd love him to dig into modern, commercial indie-rock with cleanly distorted guitars, fat drum beats and stripped down arrangements. But I don't want the music to be too conventional and "blunt", of course.
I want him to capture the sound of commercial upbeat rock blasts with catchy melodies, lyrics and guitar riffs, but, of course, to put some Princely spice into it to give it all a certain musical edge, which will allow us to dig deeper behind the superficial popular indie-rock tunes.
And, believe it or not (and if I were you I certainly wouldn't believe it, as it's just another wishful statement), I think that this kind of music would "fit" Prince nowadays and actually add to his commercial popularity. Energetic, catchy, but sophisticated and mature music all at once.

The first time i listened to When Doves Cry, it was so out there that i said to myself, 'this has to be the new Prince record!' because he was the only artist that was able to do this. Not just reinvent his "LOOK" like lesser artists do, but his music. So that's why I'm so down on his 90's work, it was nothing new, in fact it seemed like stale pale imitations of what was playing on the radio a few years back. I realize its impossible for a man to continue as an artist and not repeat yourself, or run out of new ideas, but if i was going to hope for any sound, it would be one that was true to Prince, but still completely different.
