There is the one that has much more instrumentation, has the 'purple rain era' music feel, a bit of electric guitar. I LOVE this one Never heard it...just that god awful official version on the Hits

777-9311 (and most of The Time stuff)
Although I love The Time, and they did it very well, a small selfish part of me wishes Prince hadn't given away his funkiest songs like 777-9311. I'd at least like to hear Prince perform a full, proper version of this in concert at least once, which to my knowledge he hasn't.

Well thanks for your thoughts purple people. I am going to go on record now and controversially add that i actually think Nothing Compares 2 U was great by Ms Crazy O'Connor. Prince has done it live many many times but I think it's a little bit of Prince saying hey I wrote that massive hit don't cha know!
Jerk Out, Chocolate, noon Rendezvous, Prince should have kept. Manic Monday would have been a bit lame if he kept it, I don't think he wrote it for himself, I think that one was written for the Bangles..... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The feeling you get when... (you squeeze your balls?) no that's not it...

Prince did not write it. Stevie Nicks said in an interview she was inspired by Prince's Little Red Corvette and wrote this song. She called him about it and he came to the studio and played keyboard on it . She was so grateful she gave him a writing credit, more as 'thank you'. >>

to go back and release it with his own vocals now since that would be a bit like saying "this is what is should sound like". I. Don't. Like. Sonny's. Voice. Much. At. All. I love and adore him as a bass player. I agree. As much as I love Exodus, Sonny's voice nearly sinks the entire affair (along with the endless interludes and segues). Too bad he couldn't have waited about a year to release it. Then he could have just done it as a album. Or an NPG album akin to the way NPS had him on lead vocals despite who the album is credited to.

My vote goes to..... Jerk Out. I know there is a version of Prince doing that track from the early 80s but I love Jerk Out. He should have kept that one for one of his album tracks.... It was reworked for "Pandemonium" and though i can't be sure of it, i think it was reworked by The Time from Prince's basic tracks, without Prince being directly involved (we know for sure that it wasn't updated by Prince for Corporate World, anyway, and that Jesse, Terry and Jimmy asked to use it as well as Chocolate). If you listen to the Mazarati version, the groove isn't as funky as the final version (though i don't know if Prince's basic tracks were reworked by Bobby Z, BrownMark and the band or used as such). Therefore, it's possible that Prince's version wouldn't have been as good as the version that was released. Another thing is that i can hardly imagine Prince singing the lyrics as they are on one of his album: they're way too macho for his own mythos. "Baby Go-Go", I just heard Prince's version of this song today actually and it's a very nice song. What makes the track so interesting is the synth underneath the track its the same synth used in "We can Funk" 86" version and various other SOTT songs. The song draws you in like "The Line" which was recorded a year later. I don't know why for the life of me Prince didn't put some of these tracks out in 86/87, some of these songs would have had a great impact on pop culture at the time.

In retrospect Prince got just as much press for the tracks he didn't perform and gave away as he did for the ones he kept for himself. Manic Monday, Sugar Walls, Love Thy Will Be Done, 101, Yo Mister all got noticed simply for being great Prince compositions. That was a rare time period for fans. There was so much Prince output to keep track of your practically lived at the record store waiting for the next release.
