Well done Prince and for those who voted for him!
For those who dispute Prince's place on the list, you might as well get over it already. It's a done deal. When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

I'm not sure why he made the list this year of all years, but its cool he is getting some love by a national magazine. I wish most national magazines were a little more respectful back in the day, he sure as hell deserved it. It was mostly calling him names and put downs like "oversexed diminutive rocker" this or any pun you can think of to mock his height. I'm sure the unrelenting mocking took a toll on the man. Anyway, cool as hell to see him on there. [Edited 4/29/10 14:10pm] That same photo was used on some issues of the "21 nights in London" tickets. Like you said, great pic! ...we have only scratched the surface of what the mind can do...

I believe that Prince continues to be influential, not necess in the typical measurable ways (of sales, charts, etc.) but in terms of having pioneered an influential sound and energy that continues to reverberate in many artists today.
I do not think however that Usher was the best person to represent or articulate that influence. Most of the posters here on the ORG could have written a better essay than that. I think one of the best peer-appreciation pieces I've seen about Prince was the one written by ?uestlove back during the Musicology era. It was informed, nuanced, measured, and convincing. Not only did ?uest show he knew Prince's material inside and out, but he wrote as one musician to another. P is a "musician's musician" he said, and he made the case quite well. Usher's piece is ridiculously elementary and embarrassing. "That...magic, the start of something revolutionary-the Minneapolis Sound, we should cherish it and not punish prince for not being able to replicate it."-Dreamshaman32

So many people on here latch on to any negative publicity Prince gets and then get on their soapbox of how jacked up he is. It's about the music and that's all it should ever be about. Prince isn't a tabloid artist or a flash in the pan. This dude is still going strong after 30 years and showing no signs of calling it a day. That should be an "influence" to anyone picking up an instrument or writing a song today. When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

Thus is the state of youth in America - more ignorant and uninformed than any generation before it. Prince is part of the last great society of artists, There are none better after his generation - unfortunately.

The 2010 TIME 100: The World's Most Influential People http://www.time.com/time/...34,00.html Text by Usher: I think I was about 8 or 9 when I saw Purple Rain. I was interested in music and trying to find a model. It was Michael, or it was Prince. He had an attitude, a rawness that Michael didn't have. He was not urban, but he was our version of what cool could be. You look at an icon like James Dean or Steve McQueen — they represent a certain energy, a certain poise. That's what Prince has. Young kids are getting into Prince now, and it's because he was ahead of his time. He's timeless. He hasn't aged a bit. My second hit, "Nice and Slow," was inspired by Prince. He's had his ups and downs, but he's used his career to change the way artists are treated. Being in his presence is surreal. His energy is just so fly. He is so poised. He is the s___. He is what he called a "Sexy M.F." Usher's latest album is Raymond v. Raymond [Edited 4/29/10 7:45am] I lost faith when that list included Robert Pattison

i don't think the list is about accomplishments THIS year. you can be extremely popular but NOT influential. P could make this list EVERY year. in the "artists" category, c'mon, when's the last time Elton John had a "hit record" and Ben Stiller doesn't have a "currently hot" movie out, so that criteria is out the window. P's influencing is undeniable and enduring. Most creative artists, young or old, cite him REGULARLY.
usher IS brain dead indeed tho.

I agree, though perhaps you could look at it as what prince did 25 years ago is really influential to the performers of 2010. So Prince & his current music may not be influential at this moment, but his overall influence is highly evident at this moment. My Legacy

Congrats, Prince.
The choice of Usher to write that piece is a bit of a head-scratcher, and he may not be the most articulate person around, but he has always respected his influences, so he's cool with me on that front.

Put down the bottle of haterade your drinking because it is clouding your thinking as far as legal trouble the Baby suit was nothing. The woman gets to keep are dancing baby on YOUTUBE. What legal trouble did this cause Prince since I believe it was Universal that wanted it taken down. As far as the recording engineer, perfume company, and the promoter what makes you think they are not going to be settled or paid. What makes you think all artist don't have legal issues in the music business. Almost everyday we see some story on some artist on this board battling with some lable or dealing with some legal issue. I doubt P's recent problems are unique or the end of the world as we know it. He is not in trouble for not paying his taxes. He is late paying his property taxes which according to the article posted on this board he has been late on before and he stated in an interview a few years ago that the property taxes were to high disputed them and had them lowered but don't let these facts make you think that you might not know what the fuck your talking about. The only crazy on this board is you and I am not the only one to point it out. You need to seriously get a life and stop worrying about the finacial demise of a person you don't know from adam.
