Funkateer said: It was so surreal. I will never understand why he was there and so open to the folks on the street. This was a very poor area that borders Union Square. He had one person with him that maintained his distance holding Princes coat. He just hung out for probably 10 or more minutes. It was a day I will NEVER forget. The director of my show said I HAVE to give Prince thanks in the show program.
Congrats on the role! If you get a chance, ask your Director why he was there... I'm sure P enjoyed the show outside as well as inside... [Edited 4/27/10 19:31pm]

[Edited 4/27/10 18:40pm] I wonder whether he is recording. The famous Hyde Street Studios is @ Hyde and Eddy in the loin and he has recorded there in the past. Unfortunately, the studios are being converted to condos next year. Maybe P wants to get some tracks down before its gone. Who knows? Re-gentrification is eating away at the TL like it has done in so many singular parts of SF and the character of the hoods that attracts people to them disappear as well unfortunately!

Ahhh... some more info:
The one and only purple-lovin’ ~Prince~ came in to farmerbrown on Sunday to check out their brunch band, Hot Pocket (LOVE the name). According to my spotter, he was wearing a white suit with a black collared shirt and “hella beautiful silver chains—he was glowing!” He also ordered room service the previous night (the vegan jambalaya and some wine). Funkateer said: I rarely post here but enjoy reading every ones input and to be honest I have been debating this post because I know there will be some who will dismiss me but I still can't believe what happened to me Sunday.
I was attending an audition at The Exit Theater for an upcoming production of The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari. A week earlier I had met a remarkable sweet boy named Rick at The Eagle Tavern. We hit it off immediately. He stated though that our interaction was a bit unprofessional since he is producing a show that I will be auditioning for in a week. 2 dates later it was obvious that our interaction was quickly becoming more than casual. While standing before Rik, the other producers and director, I was extremely nervous and forgetting lines left and right but the panel was most kind. I finished, answered a few questions and took leave from the performance space. As I was exiting the door onto the street the girl who was checking actors in said, “You won't believe who's outside” I was about to find out. There he stood, surrounded by a bevy of tenderloin inhabitants, dressed in black and white, His Royal Baddness, Prince. I couldn't bring myself to believe it was really him. I thought it had to be an imposter. I stepped closer and began to sweat more than I had inside the theater. Though his clothing was unmistakably Prince, he wore not a smidgen of makeup. Not even a speck of mascara. The day was hot so he had a flushed appearance and the lines on his face spoke of man 52 years of age. He appeared as a rock God taking human form. Would Prince look so human with all its imperfections? Then I saw the mole on his cheek, not as defined and perfect when enhanced with pencil. His unmistakable stature, the shy glances. He was being hugged by an overzealous tenderloin mama. Another woman was grabbing my arm exclaiming, “it's Prince, it's Prince”. The girl from inside stuck her head out the door and said, “they want to see you inside again” I was immediately torn. What do I do, This might be him. I told her give my 30 seconds. I thought I could regret doing nothing for the rest of my life. I swallowed my fear and approached him as he was leaning against a car. “Sir” I said. “I would like to shake your hand” he reached out his hand bespeckled by a huge gold ring, and said hello. I stared into his eyes and realized I was looking into those same amazing pupils that I had graced so many album covers. It was him. I really can't remember what I attempted to say, only that I was at an audition and had to get back inside. He nodded, I bowed with hands together in a Buddhist salutation and went inside. I busted into the performance space exclaiming I think I just met Prince and that he is out front. An exodus ensued. I grabbed Rik and asked, “Do you think it's him?” to which he replied, “That sir is Prince”. We stood in awe. I was fumbling with my new phone to get the camera working when he approached us and politely asked us to not take any photos. Our phones were quickly put away. Dazed we returned to the performance space to finish our meeting. The room looked at me and said “We are offering you the role” dumbfounded I thanked them then left for the outside one last time. Would he still be there. He was. I approached him again and said, “Prince, I got the part. Thank you for your Magic” He replied “Love” we spoke for a few more moments and it is quite the blur. This moment had to have an end and he began his stroll towards Market street, glittering in the sunshine. Later that night when I again saw Rik. I told him “well today cemented our connection. You brought Prince to me” No you brought Prince to me” he replied. “We are going to have a great time together” Wow, cool experience, thanks for sharing. [Edited 4/28/10 10:57am]
