Has Prince ever performed on Soul Train?

I was on Dirpy(a program where you can convert YouTube videos into mp3s/mp4s) trying to look for a good version of Vanity 6's "Nasty Girl" to convert into a mp3 for my mp3 player and I saw that they had made an appearance on Soul Train. I was shocked because I never thought they had been on there before! Mind ya'll I'm a yungin! Lol! I remember seeing old reruns of Soul Train on TV where they had all the old greats in black music like: Marvin Gaye,Aretha Franklin,Gladys Knight&The Pips,The Temptations,James Brown, The Jackson 5, Stevie Wonder, Curtis Mayfield, etc..... But, I was wondering how come Prince never performed on Soul Train?! Or how come Don Cornelius never invited him to show us his Purple Funk? That would have been cool and to see him dance in the Soul Train line. Lol! Just a thought!!!

Yes.

I believe he did some Gold Experience material or something within that era on Soul Train.

He lip synced his performance if I can remember.

Does anyone remember what the songs were on that performance?

IIRC, he did in 1994 four songs - The Most Beautiful Girl In The World, Now, Acknowledge Me and Love Sign.

IMDB has him on Soul Train 4 June 1983

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0767456/

But the princevault lists him on Solid Gold twice in 1983 but has no mention of ST

I'm pretty sure he was not on Soul Train in 1983. When Sheila E was on there in 1986, he asked Sheila to tell Prince to come on there.

I thought he played Soul Train in 79-80 for "I Wanna Be Your Lover", but I think I'm wrong.

So he did the Midnight Special and American Bandstand, but no Soul Train for the Prince album? Or am I right and he did show love to the brothas in the early days?

I believe you're thinking about "The Midnight Special" from 1980. It's the clip where he was introduced by Dr. Hook.

I think people are confusing the LRC performance with a show called 'Solid Gold'

And yes, he lip-synced it

yeash I know the clip, (starts with Prince sitting on the bass drum)

What is confusing me is IMDB has Prince as being on ST but not SG.

I think he was on SG twice. (as backed up by the vault link) once for 1999 and once for LRC.

He was on Solid Gold twice with LRC and 1999, I have it on an old videotape. He didn't perform on Soul Train until 1994. He did show up for some achievement award in 1992?, but only Patti Labelle, Rosie Gaines, and someone else sang his songs.
