Is Jughead the most hated Prince song of all time?

Even before I found this site, me and my other Prince fan friends always shitted on Jughead more than any other prince song. Big Tall Wall got alot of jokes too.....but Jughead is clearly the overall leader in criticisms (and jokes) from fans. Lately I'm not so sure cause Purple and Gold has done a damn fine job of being mocked and made fun of..... confused

One of the bright spots on the D&P album for me in back in 1991. Today not so much, although I still find it kind of amusing.

Between that and "The P" I think ..its a tie..but P&G seems to be up there in so quick a time. But to be fair The P is unreleased and P&G really isn't a proper release.

So Archies pal wins still by default?

Haha, yes, Poom Poom is probably the worst track on CB. Cant decide if it is worse than Jughead though. hmmm

Jughead is to Purple And Gold what Einstein is to Ben Affleck.

I'd say this one along with "Graffiti Bridge", "Wedding Feast" and more recently "Purple & Gold" have a kind of cult status among Prince fans. They're so bad, that they're actually kind of good (in a that's-some-cheesy-shit! kind of a way) wink

As I recall hasn't it got the same drum beat as Housequake. I guess that gives it one redeeming feature?

Whats so bad about it, its nothing worse than his typical Tony M laden, trend chasing crap of the early 90s. The lyrics are refreshing about crooked ass managers, a topic he was about to revisit more often afterwards. Take out the leaden clunky slipshod rapping by Tony M and theres an okay song left there.

Yes and Strays of the World is one of the very best songs. It has no similarity at all with Jughead or Poom Poom, it was recorded in 93/94 for crissake

Graffiti Bridge wins, hands down. Jughead is such a silly song... like Dead On It... crap rap, crap point... oh, hush up, now. Graffiti Bridge is an album title, a centrepiece.... it's the most hideous piece if pimply shit you can ever imagine (thanks Lemmy).

Strays of the World works in context. Poom Poom is tongue in cheek. Graffiti Bridge is pompous and bombast - really?... yes, really. The worst Prince song of all time. Even worse than all the nonsense on Planet Earth.

"Purple And Gold" wins the worst Prince song by a mile.

Out of serious album tracks, I'd say the worst are "Planet Earth" and that awful song on the same CD with lyrics about a little Spanish man and private jets. "Shoo-Bed-Ooh" is pretty terrible as well.

well, no, I suppose there's nothing to it that's worse than the typical Tony M laden, trend chasing crap of the early 90's.

but this just happens to be the distilled form of it. crap. from concentrate.

honestly, though, his worst to me is "Freaks On This Side." it's got one of the more awesome backing tracks on that album, but vocal delivery by Prince and Marva King is like nails on a chalk board. and that "when you've read every word in every book, congratulations, you're in the new power generation" line makes me want to shoot something.

and i'm STILL more likely to sit through it than Jughead. biggrin
