Yeah...this song is purely awful. There's virtually nothing redeeming about it...though I still think Purple & Gold trumps it. If we're going by album tracks, though...GB may just be the worst.

yeah, but even with GB, you can kind of see the point of it. it's the big feel-good sing-along finale for a musical. yeah, it's not good, but it's filling that role that apparently he felt needed to be filled in that movie and on that album.

but Jughead? yeah. it's just a stupid piece of junk that serves absolutely no purpose. Push isn't a great track, but there are musical and thematic qualities that redeem it. but having both of them pop up toward the end completely torpedoes that album. at the very best, it should have been a b-side. or not even. one of those endless variations-on-a-theme that showed up on the Gett Off and Cream maxi singles, where it can be lost to obscurity and time along with those other pointless Tony M. meanderings....

I'd say this one along with "Graffiti Bridge", "Wedding Feast" and more recently "Purple & Gold" have a kind of cult status among Prince fans. They're so bad, that they're actually kind of good (in a that's-some-cheesy-shit! kind of a way) wink

Arms of Orion could be added to that

mad I love Arms Of Orion, dammit.

The Truth. a blight on an otherwise great album. it's definitely the "Jughead" of that album, if you use the criteria I described near the beginning of this thread: "that one crap song you know is going to be on there..."

I'm with the camp that considers stuff like Animal Kingdom, Arms of Orion and, of course, Purple and Gold, to tickle the gag reflux much more so than Jughead.

ps. I love Poom Poom.

"You're My Love" and "Dance Unto The Rythm" could compete, though lol

I didn't mind it that much, I thought it was not meant to be taken seriously. It was infinitely improved on tour when Prince delivered his vocal from under the stage in the dressing room!

Although anything with that much Tony M can't be good biggrin

I think the worst lyrics are ones like "Pleased to meet you Mr Goldstruck" "Pleased to meet you Mr Pearlman, its just your family name" etc.
In fact that whole album is as popular as a homophobic Ku Klux Klan rally

Both Jughead and Wedding Feast are awful.
But Wedding Feast has a bigger "WTF?!?!?" moment. Jughead kinda fits in with feel of D+P. Wedding Feast fits into TRC like someone put together and manicured a PERFECT spring garden, then went back and laid a big 'ol peanuty, slimy stink brick smack dab in the middle of it.

I agree that Jughead, Wedding Feast, Purple and Gold and Animal Kingdom leave a lot to be desired. (I also think New Power Soul is a dreadful album from top to bottom so there's no need for me to single out Freaks On This Side).

I would however like to nominate Hypnoparadise to this esteemed list. Since most people here don't like any of the tracks from this era anyway, somehow this one escaped the wrath of the Org.

I happen to be in the minority of folks who like many of the tunes from the Chocolate Invasion/Slaughterhouse era, but Hypnoparadise is one of the rare Prince songs that actually makes me want to find that poop emoticon.

Jughead is awful. "Get stupid in the house tonight!" HA. New Dance Commercial? Did ANYONE ever do the "Jughead"? Plus, what dance has a commercial? bah. The whole thing is worthless. Should've been shoved off to Goldnigga.
