Songs that sound better Live What are some songs that you always prefer the Live version over the studio version?
For me.. She's Always In My Hair - uses a heavier guitar for it, sounds great When You Were Mine - Non falsetto version 3121 - The Bass is always amped up a lot more DMSR - Best version I've ever heard is on, of course, Small Club 8)

How any real musician can think that fucking cowbell at full volume was a good idea is beyond me. Same with Crimson & Clover - beautiful song...performed underwater on the cd

On the radio show a while ago there was an extended version of Love like jazz which was amazing. I like the record version but the radio one was two levels up. "Free URself, B the best that U can B, 3rd Apartment from the Sun, nothing left to fear" Prince Rogers Nelson - Forever in my Life -

http://prince.org/msg/7/332030 Well...there are newer members(like myself) who want to share my thoughts as well as getting an updated perspective on what people prefer. Maybe people here have just found some amazing live versions recently? I know for myself that I'm always hearing new variations of Prince songs Anyways, another one I really prefer live as well is Billy Jack bitch.

I think its a tired cliche to say "it sounds so much better live".
It usually isnt the case (unless you are talking about an exclusive guitar solo). Give me an album version anyday You're so glam, every time I see you I wanna slam!

Face Down (JOTY cassette 1997)
Anna Stesia (the extra long version on ONALive) Scandalous (I attended a show in Chicago in 1993 and the version was unbelievable)

Give me an album version anyday There are some songs where the arrangement reflecting the collaborative efforts of the whole band on stage can be an improvement upon the original arrangement conceived and recorded in the studio. 3121 is a classic example. When performed live, the bass is featured very prominently, giving the song a different, fuller -- I would say -- more attractive sound than the album version.

I have no doubt there are other examples.

Just to be negative (it's more interesting!), definitely NOT Let's Go Crazy, and probably Kiss. Let's Go Crazy live with the Revolution, natch, was great, but not since. Yuck.
On the other hand, I have never had any vague interest in Forever In My Life but I was at the 21 Nights show when he played it and it was certainly moving. 7 is dull in its studio version but at the NIA in Birmingham 93, quite a singalong. Can I cheat and add in The Bird? Wow.
