What is going on with "Cause & Effect" ?

Cause & Effect was aired on a radio station over a month ago and since there has been nuthin but silence. What is the deal with this song is it the new single from a forthcoming album or was it a one off that Prince thought would be cool to release? I've been listening to this song more and more and I actually think it is very catchy and the intinsity of his guitar playing is kick ass. Will this version be like the first released version of "Guitar" , where Prince changes the "official" released version?I think if this song was edited a little and tweeked a tad it could be a cool kick off single for this to be announced album. Hopefully the intense guitar / high energy of this song will be the theme of this new cd, let's hope.

It was just a one off bonus track (much like Turn Me Loose was)

Yeah. Don't forget that it was released the same week as all the court battles were going on re: the cancelled 2008 Dublin gig. Prince would make a good politician lol. But who knows, if it turns up on an album, I wouldn't be disapointed.

Indeed.

Some jazz with Renato, Rhonda & John would be much welcome!

Well ..., the response wasn't good.

I liked it myself.

This song has actually grown on me, because I've pinpointed exactly what it is that I don't like about it. The backing track is actually great. It's the vocal. There are two things that turn me off about it. There's that lazy way he sings the title line. But more importantly, I don't think the multi-layered vocals work for a rock song. At least with this many layers. They give it a really cheesey feeling that detracts from how intense the music can be. I can even accept the annoyance with how he sings the line "cause & effect" repeatedly, but if he'd strip back that vocal, I'd probably love this song to death. Here's hoping that if he does something with the song in the way of an album or single release, he'll rework it the way he did Guitar and Feel Better.

speaking of, the 2009 version of In A Large Room With No Light has grown on me considerably as well. it took over 6 months for the dissatisfaction over the fact that it was nowhere near as frenetic and awesome as the '86 version to wear off. it's fine with me as its own version, I guess. I still prefer the original, but it's pretty good if you look at it as being the style that particular band works in.

Someone here said he did a re-recording of Witness at or around the same time. that one makes me a little more nervous, but I'd be willing to take it. I'd be willing to take an album of old, classic songs completely re-done in the present. Hopefully we'd get the original unreleased versions as well some day, but some of these songs are so strong, and 2 of the 3 bands he's working with are so good, I'd take them in any form.

Witness
Large Room
Open Book (already released, I know)
Empty Room
Love Thy Will Be Done (already released, I know)
Moonbeam Levels
I Wonder

etc.... I'm just rambling here now because I don't feel like starting a thread. biggrin

When John & Rhonda mentioned a "new project" around "No light..." in last summer's innerview, i wondered if it couldn't be an album of jazzy rearranged outtakes from the Revolution era. I would love that for sure!!!

I actually loved the 2009 version from day 1, possibly more than the original one: Prince is SO GOOD at jazzy stuff!

biggrin
