If she started listening to music around 8-10 that's 16 years of Prince music/career that she, or any young artist that follows the successful artists, has been following. That you can call influence. Again why should she adopt Prince's modern day business moves or music, she's 28 years younger! But something in her approach to her current day music has its roots somewhere. I think you equate Prince's lack of ground breaking modern music trends in recent years with lack of success, which it isn't. He's continued to make albums, support his lifestyle and sells out concerts. You're looking at someone who was SO BIG in HIS YOUTH that the influence goes on and on and on. Old 80s artists/bands such as Simple Minds, Yazoo, Anne Lennox, U2 Madonna, where are they? Is there music any different? Yeah they have websites and are still quite mainstream. But something new and innovative? A concert being filmed live around the world online is not U2 innovation, it's technological innovation. The music is still the same. Prince shouldn't be the same as what he was back then. He's too talented for that. That's why I think he branches out into new genres and tries new things. He remains an innovater to himself and not a puppet to the public, which is what makes him an influence and not a current trend, here today and gone tomorrow. Incidentally, I voted for the drummer from Iron Butterfly. Prince was influential in terms of how he released his & Bria's CDs. One day the music industry will change the way they distribute & handle their artists when the artists find other means of distribution  |
