That can't be. Far be it from our Prince to try to spite us half-heartedly. He'd really throw himself into it if that were his goal.

It would be a most excellently and elegantly executed act of spite, something to make us feel proud to have been spite upon.

You know...I cant say I totally disagree with this.
Prince has done some over the top crap that he had to know wouldnt go over well with his fans. His latest being the crappy Lotus site. He already had a bad rep because of his previous sites, but he starts another and what does he do? He screws his fans AGAIN.
Going back a little further, Id say the One Night Alone cd set was somewhat spiteful. It was his first Live cd release, and he HAD TO KNOW we would want a live performance of Purple Rain among some other classics, and what does he do?
He gives us a live set that was poorly (overly) produced and NO PURPLE RAIN!
Go back a tad further... The freak'n Rainbow Children! So we have the first commercial release since changing his name back to Prince and he slaps that "contraversial" sticker on it. Prince? Contraversial? This has to be great, right? W-R-O-N-G! What does he do? Certainly not the contraversial Prince songs most expected....instead we get a Jehovas Witness Jazzfest.
So yea..I think he has done some spiteful things, just to see how far WE will go to stay with him.

now in regards 2 the actual topic let me clarify what i meant a bit more, the vikings song he put out, everyone heard a football fight song and expected big horns and loud drums, something energetic that clearly prince couldve made with ease but no, he knew thats what everyone would be expecting so instead he releases a god awful suckfest just for the sake of not giving the people exactly what they expected, it almost seems like hes sacrificing quality for spontaneity. this is just a prime example of many more.

I'm sure there's a method to his madness. I won't bother going into it because I don't want to give some a reason to rip, although I keep the armor and shield on at all times, especially when posting on the org.

I think what we are exposed to is more the result of ego rather than spite. It would require prince to care to waste energy on spite. i'm not saying this out of any malice towards Prince-I just think his ego makes him easily bored and so none commital. But if you scratch further and look at Prince's youth, which is where the character is developed & conditioned, Prince had no real opportunity to be fully intimate and safe with his family. Broken home, moving around and then bang he's into fame which only isolates him more.

I think this is the reason why Prince is so dedicated to his faith, it's the one thing he can connect to that won't let him down. And he's connected to music of course, but in the end that is also material.
