parade and 1999 are awesome indeed but the rainbow children and musicology are there equals to say the least.and dont forget lotusflow3r(even if its overpriced.)

3121 is my favourite from the last decade. Too much preaching stuff on the Rianbow Children and Lotusflow3r could have been great but too much filler. Was nice to hear more guitar base stuff though biggrin

Wow, this is going to be hard.

For You - This is a very good album, not only for the fact that he was only 20 years old and played everything.
Controversy - The title track, Sexuality and Let's Work are still his best work.
Diamonds & Pearls - A close call between this and Lovesexy. Both are brilliant.
prince - This album is worth getting just for Sexy MF alone!

Looks like I'm settling for the older stuff. Then again, hardly surprising is it.

Least recommended albums for a newcomer:

Parade - Not a good place to start. It has its moments though, like Sometimes It Snows In April and Girls & Boys.
Black Album - Just too weird. The fact that he cancelled the release literally at the very last minute says it all. That said, if you get a chance to hear it this album might grow on you with time.
Batman - Again it has its moments, like Batdance, but as a whole not really essential.
Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic - Like Parade, not a good place to start.

This is very subjective. We like different albums for different reasons.

For me, it's hard to choose just 4, although SOTT is my all time fav. If you really like Prince's music, get all of them at a used cd store. The only ones I would really avoid are:

Kama Sutra
NEWS

Even NPS has a few decent songs on it. razz

I just listened to all 3 cd's from the B Sides. What an awesome compilation.

The obvious choices would be most suitable for a newbie namely: PR, SOTT, 1999 and Parade or D&P (just because it was a commercial success).

Not necessarily my personal recommendations, but those would probably scare them off lol

I'd recommend (although it's extremely hard):

- Controversy: it's just very likeable, diverse and fun.
- 1999.
- Purple Rain.
- Sign of the Times.
Parade would have been 5th wink

Avoid:

- Emancipation: a whole lotta filler (a whole lotta fun though)
- NPS.
- Rave un2 The Joy Fantastic.
- MPLSound.
