I went to target the other day to get myself an Easter present and was looking at music and guess what I saw that crushed me inside 20 copys of Lotusflow3r for $4.99..... this was sad beautiful quality music at bargain bin prices.... none of targets other music is that cheap.... I think hey hung up the lotusflow3r coat and are done with it.....

and at borders books the 21. nights book which my mom paid $40 for when it first cam out is now $5 I was saddened to hear this I'm going to buy myself four copys of it I have one and then I will have five

It eventually happens to a lot of cds...But it did seem to happen to Lotus very quickly.

not really. it was $12 to begin with a year ago when it was released, and how much is it now? other cds and dvds reduce in price just as quickly if not quicker

in real terms, prince's stuff reduces in price slower than anyone elses as he shits the stuff out quicker than anyone else and loses interest in his releases by day eight of them hitting the shelves

i got 21 nights for £11 when it was released, now its £5, that's two and a half years later. other books are cut in price way faster than that

i beleive the deal was for a short term only - so when they're gone that's it - it's not like your regular wrecka stow that keeps albums in stock (as long as the labels keep printing them).

it's very hard to find any prince albums that were released since 1996. (unless second hand or online).

i believe this sad state of affairs needs to be redressed. Prince needs to put all these albums up on a pay as your download site (or re-release them on CD? - maybe multi-packs 2 or 3 album sets?).

Goldnigga
Exodus
The Beautiful Experience
Emancipation
Crystal Ball
The Truth
Kamasutra
Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic (incl. the longer versions and remixes/bonus trax)
NPGMusicCliub Trax (incl. Chocolate Invasion/Slaughterhouse)
Rainbow Children
One Nite Alone
NEWS
C_NOTE
One Nite Aone Live! (incl. One Mo Jam???)
Musicology
3121
Planet Earth
Lotus Flow3r (triple album)

Could also include:
Madhouse 24
1-800 New Funk
MC COX
Children Of The Sun (maybe not!)

did i miss anything not on WB?

I'm wondering if the exclusive deal with Target was for 1 year only or something and now they're just trying to recoup their investment in case it he takes it to some other venue (iTunes, Amazon, etc.). I mean this is Prince we're talking about, so he probably won't, but still...

But I don't know why it would make you sad. Hell, PRINCE himself stopped promoting it before Target did. shrug

Welcome to months ago. The 4.99 thing has been mentioned ad nauseum on here. The 21 Nights book was bound to go on sale at some point. It's 4.99 here as well. Stacks of them. Stacks of Lotus at my local Target too. Just shows that no one cares about that album past the 400,000 that's bought it thus far, over a year's time.

As a comparison, Keith Urban's album, which was released the same week as LotusFlow3r. The album has sold in the US 761,921 copies as of February, 2010. LotusFlow3r, as of the end of 2009, has sold 415,829. That's just over half of Urban's sales to this date. Why? Keith toured, and promoted the album. Even as late as June of last year, he was making new videos for a new single. What was Prince doing in June? Hmmmm, ignoring his birthday probably.

I'm not surprised...and I don't see why it is sad. Prince didn't lose on the deal, the distributor did! But I still see Lotusflower in local record stores for $9.99 and over. I still predict a new album by the end of the year...

Exactly. In case folks didn't know, there's a couple of fucking wars going on abroad, miners trapped in a mine, a 15 year old girl committed suicide from being bullied to death, and every day another 5 year old dies in a murder/suicide by a deranged parent. And someone's worried that fucking Lotusflow3r is goddamn $4.99??? Didn't someone once say they took it as an insult? Gheezus, get a bloody grip, folks..

PS Target paid a lump sum to Prince most likely, so the promotion was left up to Target for the most part. I don't know what details had Prince doing appearances to assist in that, but I wonder just how much they made on it after a year's time. The thing hasn't even went gold after a year.

well there are 2 ways to look at that.

on one hand, Gold status is for albums that have SHIPPED 500,000 copies. now between the ones bought and the ones on the shelves, it's definitely at that level.

on the other hand, Target isn't a record company and isn't going to fork over the money to get the RIAA to certify it, if they're even allowed to, so it'll never go Gold. does anyone even bother with that any more?

When your CD is sold exclusively in one chain after a certain point it will stop selling. Basically everyone who wanted to buy it did and there's going to be leftover CDs that the retailer wants to move at any cost. It doesn't have any bearing on the music or the artists substance. If it doesn't genuinely bother you then buy some copies as gifts for friends who may not necessarily buy
Prince for themselves and they may like it. Same goes for the book. I actually plan on picking some of both to be raffle prizes at a Prince party me and a friend are doing in June. Neither was made widely available and some who attend would be happy to have either of them.
When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

Target probably pressed way too many of those sets, that's all. Considering they will never be put back into production again, it's a good deal for collectors. Target will probably bump the price back up when Androgy9 (or what ever the hell the new CD is called) gets released.

Can i as why are you bothering? You don't need five copies of a book that literally has no value.

Wouldn't your $20 be better spent elsewhere? buying your mom a lunch or better yet, something charitable maybe.shrug

Yeah and the org went purple with rage over $77 being charged in error - so what a lot of hypocrites I say but then we are all entitled to our opinions !!! What makes someone sad may not be that big a deal in the great scheme of things
