Actually it's rather interesting because a "bootlegger" is usually referring to a person "making" bootlegs - not a fan listening to boots.
Can we draw any clues from it, therefore? Is he so not into the internet stuff that he doesn't know how many bootlegs are out there and how easily they can be accessed, actually? I mean, does he really think one has to be a "bootlegger" to know All My Dreams?? confused

i think that tv show where unique asked the question was probably in 1999
for the promotion of rave.

just guessing tho but isn't that the last time he's visited the uk to do
some tv show promotion?

he was kinda high on himself back then and recently got into this whole
bootleggers things.

dude must have known that his own employees or even he himself were the
source of this material getting out.

having a fan just ask you if you plan on releasing it and then calling
them a bootlegger is ignorant and lame.

he could have said how he actually felt about it, like that he felt sad
that those songs are circulating and that he may release them one day,
or not. could have even asked the whole audience "is that what you would
like to hear? more outtake sets?"

but at that time he was always saying stupid things like "no, forget all
that. forget about 'all my dreams', i have something much better for you"
and then launch into a prince by numbers performance of "baby knows"

I remember one interview he did on some tv show back in 2004 and some guy asked him about the vault..Prince's reply was exactly the same: "Are you a bootlegger?".

Bottom line is that he seems to do what he wants, when he wants, if he wants to.... If he wanted to release vault material then he would do.... Im sure he will suckle at that teat when money dries up but don't hold your breathe... I presume Old Friends and Chaos & Disorder are pure vault - I rest my case

Best to just baffle him and say "Bootlegger?... Don't you recognise me?"

or tell him that, if his songs really are his children then you'll be calling Social Services

The best response would be, "If I was a bootlegger then I would already have those songs and wouldn't be asking you to release them".

yeah, it was 1999. he was only joking as morris told me at paisley a few months later and i also found out that he has codewords and actions if he want's someone removed for real

i also suggested he released the vaults material by having a monthly magazine with a covermount cd. a few months later the npgmc started with monthly downloads

that's a very good idea. the magazine could be about recent stuff
but also have a large section on the tracks that are on the discs.
like personell details, recording dates, lyrics, some artwork etc

may i say it was worth the price just for I Dig U Better Dead...I think thats a great catchy unusual track nod
Everybody's looking 4 the ladder
Everybody wants salvation of the soul
The steps U take are no easy road
But the reward is great

I would love to tell him..."look Prince, If you thought it was a wise career move to release the Rainbow Children, or if you thought it was a sure fire hit...Then there is NO LOGICAL REASON WHAT SO EVER for you to not open the vault! Cause Im sure from the BOOTLEGS ive listened to, there's nothing in there that can be any worse than Wedding Feast!"
