Im sick of hearing about how great albums are before they come out. D&P aren't 'the greatest tunes I've ever heard,' Emancipation wasn't the album he 'was born 2 make,' MPLSound wasn't 'Controversy - The Saga Continues'...the list goes on and on, right up until the radio DJ comments about Cause & Effect before they played it. It's nice for people to be excited about the music but it's soooo much better to not believe the hype when it comes to Prince.

Or maybe....just maybe, Janelle really liked the material....What a thought, huh?

And yeah, fuck all ya'll...lol....Emancipation was a dope project....

Really, like she is going to say it sucks
come on people
Emancipation was actually a good project, Diamond and Pearls was a good album

I'm not saying she didn't like it. These "hype" comments can get kinda ridiculous though. I enjoy Emancipation but 'the recording he was born to make?' That's just silly. Comments like that just set people up to be disappointed.

you don't see the difference between a press release written by Prince's PR team and a completely unrelated artist hearing the material and saying how much they like it?

Of course I do. But hype is hype, whether it's sent out by a PR firm or it's quoted by a band member. None of the projects have been preceded by these kinds of comments have lived up to them, IMO. I just prefer to remain cautiously optimistic in lieu of full-on geeked out. For the record, I hope it's brilliant.

this is news to me that there is new prince music.... i mean he's always making music but i didn't know there was plans for a new album. is this the first mention of this or is there a release date or anything?
as far as the hype is concerned, i agree it gets a little much, especially when it just causes bigger disappointment when u hear some of the recent output.

dr. funkenberry wasn't (officially) part of his PR team either, yet we heard the same praising crap from him as we do here.

Having a rising young artist like Janelle Monae respond at all to Prince's new material is a positive, lol. Think about the dudes he was competing against in the Grammy category for a minute... I'm not sure, but I doubt Katy Perry or whoever is tweeting about Bruce's next release.

I think for these people, the effect of the music is heightened by being in the presence of its creator . . . sort of liek those people Prince drove around L.A. listening to Lotusflower. . . .

Sure, that's what you want- artists as past Spelling Bee champs. I can see George Clinton and James Brown at the front of the class!

Where is the proof that he is 'always making music'?

You can make an educated guess that most of the lotusflower tracks with Michael Bland & Sonny Thompson were recorded in the same sessions as the 3121 title track a few years previously. 'Feel Good Feel better', that was a few years before. We get a few shocking songs like 'Purple & Gold' every now and again ... but thats about it !!

I don't buy that he's in the studio working 24-7 anymore, he's done, he's burnt out. Maybe in the 80's he was recording a lot , but he was at his peak back then 25 years ago, now it's just hype. The same with this legendary vault, what is really in this vault? I have heard 100's of unreleased songs and 90% of them are pretty crap, and those are the ones people bothered to make copies of. I don't buy that there is anything that great in there that we have not already heard... That's why it's not been opened. There was supposed to be recordings with Miles Davis but if I remember rightly Alan Leeds basically said that was not true.

As for hype about new Prince music .... we have had this for the last 15+ years and the music has been (at best) average.

I'd believe someone who's actually heard the music more than I would a bunch of nobodies talking shit a mile a minute on the internet.

If she didn't like the tracks, she wouldn't have talked about them.

Jesus, you people need to stop reading into every fucking thing like it's a Press Release!!!

All the woman said was that she was at the man's house, and dug the music that he let her listen to.

Co-Sign but don't look for this B.S to stop anytime soon. Some people on this board are so stupid that they are more worked up over some stupid website than the actual music. Lotusflower as a musical project kicks ass in a music environment were just about everything sucks. It is unbeliveable that people can't see that.

You gotta love this "but it's still better than 99% of what's out there" nonsense: it isn't better, and people who say that often don't know anything except the crap that's on mainstream radio (or what passes for that these days).

In the past, nobody had to defend Prince's music that way: Prince simply made great music, not music that was slightly less crappy than the other music you'd hear on the radio.

Err...LoveSexy, ATWID ...etc..should i go on...

Come on ...Prince has always produced good / quality music but to say he's produced good / quality albums is another thing.. lol .because he has a wider scope than any artist out there... that's just fact. wink

Prince has always had a diverst taste of music on his CD's/Albums he's never really made an album like most artist that stick to one theme or type of music format...because he's just able to just switch from Jazz to Rock to Pop to Soul to funk to hip-hop (as prince does not do rap music) with ease! cool

His format has always been "live" and will remain so .... as he can ad-lib all night long when in concert ... the studio is his lab he just tests out ideas biggrin

It almost sounds like she is being sarcastic and that is not cool. mad She could have chosen her words better. Prince showed her respect by inviting her to Paisley Park, she should show some respect in return.
