Compton was getting notorious back in the late 80's. I think Prince named this BRILLIANT jam with a sense of humor about it being ghetto wild.

I thought I read that the title was Sheila E's idea and it had no real meaning, just a funky thing to call it.

This was a sarcastic/comedic title. It was around the time Compton was getting mentioned a lot in gansta rap. In fact, the majority of the Black Album was Prince (who was an actual instrument-playing composer) backlashing against the seemingly-talentless rap that was dominating the once Prince-dominated black market.

The title was Prince sarcastically trying to act hard. And it worked.
