he didn't know nwa in 86/87, they didn't break out until 88 i think - the symbol album was recorded 91-92 so that's a different matter (by the way what is the sample? nwa's music is all samples so maybe it's coincedence, unless it's a vocal sample) also people like Levi, Kirk, chronic freeze etc may have added those influences to prince's palette.

This song can't be referencing NWA, as it was recorded (December 86) before they had released anything. I'm not buyin' that "the majority of the Black Album was Prince (who was an actual instrument-playing composer) backlashing against the seemingly-talentless rap", since only 1 song mentions rap directly, and I don't think "When 2 R In Love" would bother Ice-T too much. Hmmm... U have a good point there, even though in the recording world, it is very possible that he may have heard their stuff before they released anything. Albums normally take a LONG time from the recording process 2 release, but who knows... I was an East Coast Hip-Hop lover, and couldn't stand NWA. On your second point, I would agree that there really is only one obvious dig at Rap on the album, being "Dead On It", with "Bob George" being arguable. "He's a musician's musician..."
