2 Nigs United for West Compton...? Does anyone have any back info as to what the hell this title means? I always thought it was the oddest name for a song.

I have no clue!!!!! I've heard this song only one time, and I was going was "WTH?? What was he think when he made this song?" I was flabbergasted by it. Beside any song That involves Nig or Nigga in his songs and titles make me cringe.

Beside any song That involves Nig or Nigga in his songs and titles make me cringe. Why is that? We've taken the word back...we OWN it Dick Gregory said this to his Mother about the title of his Autobiography, Nigger, his mother had some objections: Whenever you hear the word Nigger, you’ll know they're advertising my book. he also said these things: Good evening ladies and gentlemen. I understand there are a good many Southerners in the room tonight. I know the South very well. I spent twenty years there one night. Last time I was down South I walked into this restaurant and this white waitress came up to me and said, "We don't serve colored people here." I said, "That's all right. I don't eat colored people. Bring me a whole fried chicken." Then these three white boys came up to me and said, "Boy, we're giving you fair warning'. Anything you do to that chicken, we're gonna do to you". So I put down my knife and fork, I picked up that chicken and I kissed it. Then I said, "Line up, boys!" [5]. This routine caused a direct request from publisher Hugh Hefner and he was booked as a replacement for the white comedian Professor Irwin Corey. Until then Gregory had worked mostly at small clubs with predominantly black audiences. [Edited 3/30/10 5:17am]

I think that's hilarious. It's like Wu-Tang before Wu-Tang was Wu-Tang. Shit. They even agreed to be traded to the Chinese in the "Great Race Draft" of '04. makes me wonder if there's a "1 Nig doin' summin or other" out there in the midwest, locked up in a Vault. Maybe a "4 Nigs Euphoric in a Circle Jerk"...wow... [Edited 3/30/10 6:19am]

Compton was getting notorious back in the late 80's. I think Prince named this BRILLIANT jam with a sense of humor about it being ghetto wild. My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid

I thought I read that the title was Sheila E's idea and it had no real meaning, just a funky thing to call it. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Ya'lls gots ta be understandin...
This was a sarcastic/comedic title. It was around the time Compton was getting mentioned a lot in gansta rap. In fact, the majority of the Black Album was Prince (who was an actual instrument-playing composer) backlashing against the seemingly-talentless rap that was dominating the once Prince-dominated black market. The title was Prince sarcastically trying to act hard. And it worked.

When I was little(a baby really) my pops moved out of L.A. and moved to the suburbs. His familt gave him all kindsa shit for it. Saying he was trying to get away from the family AND trying not to be black. That made him angry but he did it anyway. I think it WAS to get away from his family cuz he doesn't like to hang out with them but he always said it was to get me and my brother out of the inner city and keep us outta trouble. It worked, to a degree...but there's trouble ANYwhere U wanna find it. Some places, U look for it; others, it looks for U. Then when those suburbs got full, he moved FURTHER out in the suburbs and his family moved to where he had been...some of them, at least. He repeated that process 1 more time until he moved outta state. That confirmed my earlier thoughs about why he was moving because in 2009, North Fontana/Rancho Cucamonga CA was NOT a bad area and he had no children or grandchildren to be concerned about.

There may be some truth to this. She liked weird song titles. On her second album, she has a song called "Merci 4 The Speed Of A Mad Clown In Summer" I don't think Prince had anything to do with that one.

Although I don't hink it was him trying 2 act hard... I saw it as an in-your-face speeding train of music, where Prince was saying "try playing this type of shit". OR... since it was "united 4 West Compton", he might have been thinking he was schooling them. . [Edited 3/31/10 6:27am] "He's a musician's musician..."

The funny thing about all of this, is that all of NWA, etc, loved Prince. "He's a musician's musician..."

This song can't be referencing NWA, as it was recorded (December 86) before they had released anything. I'm not buyin' that "the majority of the Black Album was Prince (who was an actual instrument-playing composer) backlashing against the seemingly-talentless rap", since only 1 song mentions rap directly, and I don't think "When 2 R In Love" would bother Ice-T too much.

they sound like southern white marines saying it. is it not a comment on the fact that one section of uneductated people have an official right to kill in the name of war, and that other segments of society fight their own gehtto wars. or else they were going to start a soccer league in west compton. Got my mojo working...it just don't work on you!
