PRINCE.ORG Makes The Headlines - Purple RAGE.

Well it appears the Lotusflow3r.com issue has made the "news"...

http://thedailyswarm.com/...t-fanclub/

Purple Rage: Prince Fans Automatically Charged For Another Year of Dormant Fanclub...

The Musictionary:

To Prince, His Purple Majesty, His Royal Badness, The Dick Formerly Known As Prince:

Today, a year after opening your LotusFlow3r club, you charged fans who had requested to cancel their annual memberships another $77. How do I know? Because I am one of them.

Prince, you’ve gotta cut this shit out. I’m a big fan, I drove 15 hours to see you last year. I own all of your albums, movies, and lots of other memorabilia. Yeah, I’m a fan. But would it kill you to treat your fans correctly for once? When you first announced your new LotusFlower club, many more experienced fans said “don’t do it, Prince has a baaaaad history in the online marketplace.” I went ahead and signed up anyway, gladly paying the $77 because of all the things you and your team mentioned would eventually be coming to the site. Exclusive content, rare material, possibly even long-awaited releases from your vault. Instead we got a spinning orb of videos, three albums (which were available at Target for less than $12), four “new” streaming tracks and if fans were lucky, they actually received the t-shirt you promised. Luckily I got my shirt, but from reading what’s available on the internet, I’d say anywhere from 30–40% did NOT get their shirts.

The worst part is, several months ago I sent a request to your support/sales group at LotusFlow3r requesting to cancel my membership. I never received a reply, so I went into the site and changed my credit card information. I figured that surely that would be enough. I knew that the site auto-charged every year, but the terms stated that you had to email support@lotusflower.com, which many, many fans did. Instead of a reply, we all woke up with nice little $77 charges this morning. The best part? As of the time of this writing — your website is actually down, and completely inaccessible.

Part of me wants to hope that you have something bigger planned. But that makes it sound like I’m drinking the purple Kool-Aid, which I’m not. I just want my $77 back, please. If you can show me that you have better things coming, I would even possibly consider rejoining the site, but I don’t want to pay $77 for a black page.

Sincerely Please stop being a giant purple dick,

-Steven Anthony Hammock

UPDATE: And just like that, here’s the official message from the support team:

Dear LotusFlow3r.com members,

We were saddened to hear today that the earliest adopters of LotusFlow3r.com were charged $77 for a repeat subscription to the website. We did not expect this action to occur automatically as we had not set up a recurring billing script in our code. After getting on the phone with the payment gateway Authorize.net, we found that the subscriptions were being renewed on their end. We immediately discontinued the recurring billing for all further subscriptions and we will be refunding those who have been charged. We are very sorry for the inconvenience and are working quickly to refund anyone who was charged for a second year. Please be aware that Prince himself had no hand in this and that the error was due to lack of thoroughness on our part.

Sincerely,
LotusFlow3r development team

I'm afraid we won't go anywhere by insulting him.

Calling him names... that's quite agressive...

I agree, and also believe that it WAS, in fact, a glitch that caused the second charge.

My main purpose in posting this "news", is 2 let the ORGers know that this is not an isolated community here, and things will get "put on blast".

Peace.

Name-calling is not productive at all. It is distasteful and not at all constructive.

It reflects upon those using it more that Prince himself.

Yes, something needs to be said (and I think it has been at length here), but abuse and insults are not only counter-productive but also juvenille and immature.

An opportunity to be constructive has been ruined here, IMO.

Wow, that was in poor taste. I could understand him being angry he was charged again in error, but wow, he really went off in that letter.

I wonder if that guy got permssion to post those comments he took from the orgers who posted those comments on this site.

Well, folks, I guess that is the reason why I don't think Prince will ever want to do business with this site, like his team did in the past (contact staff for announcement of concerts, contests, etc.) because, you can't deny the insults/namecalling towards him from fans on this site, that has been going on for quite some time now. I got my $77.00 back from his team, within two days it was taken out of my account. I thought that was pretty fast.

It appears that this article simply referenced a blog post, and then referenced the ORG for the fan reactions.

Since forums such as this one get so insular, people forget they R in fact, public... Hopefully, seeing their name calling within an article elsewhere will curb their impulsive negativity in the future here on the ORG.

You really think so? lol

Not laughing at you. It's just that I suspect "the usual suspects" will actually get off on seeing their negativity trumpeted to the wider world.

Perhaps I`m just an old fuddy duddy , but this seems to me to be some pretty lazy journalism.
Imagine this; blog entry posts that Martians have landed, a dozen anonymous posts on a message board confirm this startling fact, news at 11 lol

I am not in any way trying to demean or diminish anyones feelings or statements about the lotusflow3r debacle, just saying that this is a long way from Pulitzer prize winning stuff cool

I actually considered adding that possibility, but decidedly left it out.

Mirror, Mirror on the blog who's the meanest of them all? Wow I am kinda glad that they get to see how the public looks at the org. If people don't like it they need to change how fast they are at calling Prince names. It's the presses job to take the most offensive comments and to me that article didn't get the rudest ones. It was a mistake and it got fixed but people on here just love to bitch. I hope this helps people make a positive change and think about what they say on here. Love is the only way. MayRain

Yeah, this is my post from my website guys. Someone else posted it along with your comments. I don't know who or what The Daily Swarm is.

The original post (and the follow up) are on my site (link in signature.)

Sorry to tell you but this is a pretty isolated thing, hardly anyone in the world knows about this, save for the Org and a few other Prince sites. I happen to own a blog and I posted about it, but I'm obviously a member of this community. It WAS my intention to get this story out to a bigger reader-base, so I'm glad it's getting posted on other sites (such as Ernest's blog and The Daily Swarm).

This story is never going to hit the "mainstream" media. My "name-calling" of P, by calling him a dick, is not meant to be malicious. It is written humorously, but I do mean it. While the $77 fee may have been refunded (which I also posted about), Prince has a lot on his plate legally at the current time and people outside of the Org generally don't know about it. He doesn't just deserve a pass for being Prince, sorry. There's a point in time where people need to stop making excuses for the man.

Here's where I stand:

I saw the blog post originally on Steven's site, when it was originally posted last week as he's a friend of mine.

I personally don't agree with what he said, the whole situation got taken out of hand, but the fault lies more with the org, not with Steven or what he wrote. It's easy to get hysterical and pissed off when everyone else is doing the same - and what he wrote is NOTHING, repeat NOTHING, compared to the vitriol that dozens of orgers were spewing at the time. All of a sudden what he wrote gets posted somewhere else and some of you change your tune.

This was never a big deal, I was never pissed off (then again since I had changed my card I didn't personally get charged), and some of you will recall I was trying to diffuse the situation and calm people down in the original thread.

But don't act like some of you that are now trying to pretend you were chill the whole time weren't equally as pissed off at the time. Pretty much most of y'all were making a mountain out of a molehill, and now many of you are realizing just how much you over-reacted.

I don't disagree with the overreaction Militant; but I also do stand by what I wrote as an honest (and informed) opinion that was quickly formed after the issue happened. I also don't like that the LotusFlow3r team said that they never planned for a recurring service when it was actually a clause in the membership terms, but whatever.

I am not here to "defend" my journalism, but rather just to let you all know that still, this story and the ones of Prince dealing with Croke Park, 3121 Perfume etc. etc. are not widespread news. Giovanni originally stated that this was getting "put on blast" but it isn't. This story (my story) is y'know, from here inside the org.
