iVault 688 I can't list the track list here because it is 688 tracks. At least.
I found some overlap with Work It Vol. II but iVault has better versions of songs I have but a whole world of material I haven't heard. A bonus is all the songs are organized by year. It tracks with the book 'The Vault.' It's gonna take me all year to digest all this. iVault also has complete versions of some songs and at least a dozen songs come as multiple versions and various stages of completion. Great 8:39 version of 'Do Yourself A Favor.' Best version I've heard yet. 'Big Tall Wall' here is Prince on lead and backing vocals, drums, and some guitar at the end. Still compelling. I'm tempted to name all the women doing vocals. Listening to 'Curious Blue' which I've never heard of. The 10:51 'Thunder' from the Billboards ballet is included here. Eight takes of 'We Can Funk.' 'Crucial' sans lead guitar. This is the horn version . . . lol. Clocks in at 7:17 too. Four takes of 'For You.' Different layers of vocals. 'We Can Work it Out' is here also. Prescient ending . . . . So, . . . . . . Has anyone else experienced this collection? [Edited 3/15/10 22:07pm] I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

Not heard of it. Do Yourself A Favour on The Work clocks in at 8:41, I didn't realize there were other Prince versions, I love that song.
Think the original Crucial boot had the extended horn version.

Think the original Crucial boot had the extended horn version. I think it's the same version, depending on how a mp3/CD track is done u can gain/lose a few seconds of silence at the beginning or ending of a song ^^ A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

Thing with torrents is you end up with fucking hundreds of boots with invariably the same song. I haven't listened to the whole of the iVault but if someone would care to highlight the, err, highlights that would be great. There's a lot of crap in that collection.

Agreed - lots of filler. - The dozen or so "We Can Funk" versions are tedious, just stick to the 86 version. - The George Clinton tracks are painful. (Dis Beat Disrupts??? Ugh.) - The late 70s instrumentals probably aren't even Prince. The non-Prince "I'll Do Anything" tracks are unlistenable. It still annoys me that songs like Crystal Ball, Dream Factory, Movie Star, Last Heart, etc. still appear even though they've been officially released. Do people just long to hear "Billy Jack Bitch" in shitty quality? It's great that someone made such a comprehensive collection, but wading through the garbage takes patience!

It's a great collection, although one for completists. There are lots of multiple versions of songs and the outtakes featuring George Clinton/Mayte/Carmen Electra/Margie Cox become a little tedious.
It's great if you have iTunes as the songs are (almost accurately) seperated into folders by year so you can listen to his music develop over the years if that's your thing. A quick glance on my iTunes reveals that it would take over 2 solid days to listen to all the tracks.

Vault have 100 songs 10 versions each
have u ever thought of how he counts them? eg Computer blue alone has countless versions the oprah interview had lots of lies 'every one sounded different', a lot of personal stuff was made believe too if u cant tell me if Prince or Rosie did the opening scream for Gett Off, then u are not purple !!!

the MC Flash songs are fierce though! Versions with Prince on vocals is my personal holy grail. Well, that and Kate Winslet.

The bitrate is so low, it's hardly worth the hard drive space. But it's a good quick reference. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

I came across the iVault about a year ago and I'm still amazed by it.
highlights for me are all the versions of Computer Blue, Vanity 6's Sex Shooter, Adonis & Bathsheba and prety much everything from the 1980's. When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

It's crazy you posted this because I just downloaded this YESTERDAY!!! great minds must think alike.
My question: Can we now consider our outtake collection complete with this? In other words, does it include all circulating outtakes?

never bothered to dl it because of the crappy bitrate. same for Revelations 2.1 or whatever.
got it all via other stuff anyway. i guess it works as a good crash course.

Interesting collection of songs.
I can see why Prince goes around and sues everyone for stealing his music. I would rather have another Crystal Ball with some liner notes.

I really have no interest in having to buy a new hard drive just to get this stuff on.
An interesting collection would be one with complete songs, in good quality. Maybe a good extended or alternate version every now and then, but not like this with dozens of takes, intro's, outro's, remixes and whatever else they put on there.

I've noticed seedless flac torrents of all volumes but assumed they'd existed for better archiving to CD. All of the Work Volumes (1-5) were factory pressed CDs on the Thunderball label. The remaining Work volumes were also on CD, but not factory pressed. So every track can be had in lossless CD quality except of course, download-only tracks that appear on a couple of the volumes that were just up-converted to CD bitrates. If you have mp3s of the tracks, they were obviously converted to lossy somewhere along the line. Then there are folks who have taken mp3s and converted to them WAVs and Flacs and aren't up front about the lineage. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.
