Let me be nitpicky. The song was released in 1994, yes. But the version on The Gold Experience was rerecorded for the album. So technically, if they're talking about the album version, they had the date right. But if they meant the original version, then you are correct with the 1994 date.

....actually this is kinda pointless in its subjectivity, I think half of the songs on Diamonds&Pearls, Love Symbol, Emancipation and Crystal Ball are great notwithstanding when they were written. Old Friends 4 Sale is my favourite album of his from the 90s.

They're both CD versions. Remember, The Beautiful Experience was an album unto itself. Both versions have their own charm. The 1994 version is a straight ahead beautiful song; a version Prince used for multiple instrumentals, and Mayte's version as well. The 1995 version was more band oriented and fit the band-feel of The Gold Experience.
