"The Question of U" dates back to 1985, so it's not really a 90's song. Same with the aforementioned "Joy In Repetition" being from 1986.

Nonsense - the fact that we happen to know it was written earlier doesn't make it a song from the 80s. I'm assuming the versions referred to were those released (and recorded?) in 1990. If someone mentioned Black Album songs or Crystal Ball trax, I guess I'd have an issue, but album trax that were originally written earlier, i don't think it's worth the nits to pick...

It WAS a song originally conceived in the 80's, thereby forever solidifying it's place in Prince history. He's reworked many songs and released them (or re-released them). The song might not have been the same, or at all, in the 90's. Besides, something like "The Question of U" was BARELY released in the 90's, 1990 to be exact, so even if he wrote it just a year prior, it'd still be an 80's era written song.

And what about "With You"? It was released in 1979, yet Jill put it out in the mid-late 80's, so what does it become then? What about him rerecording "In A Large Room With No Light" again in 2010? Is it suddenly a '10's song, despite it being written 23 years or more? The examples go on.

Another example off that GB album is "Tick Tick Bang". 80's or 90's?

I guess it depends on how you look at it. To me, if it was recorded in the 80's, it's an 80's song. Just like all the material on the Black Album. However, if it was drastically reworked like "Tick, Tick, Bang", I'd label it a 90's song. I consider the '09 version of "In a Large Room with No Light", just that - the '09 version.

Eh? Not when you're talking in decades!!! By your logic, 1990 is part of the 80's which clearly it isn't! Likewise, 2000 is in the so-called "noughties", it is not part of the 90's decade (the clue is in the fact there is no 9 in the number!)

You're just confusing it with the fact that there wasn't a "year 0", its not applicable to the following years.

So, it covers 1990 - 1999! What's funnier is you then pick a song which would have fit in to either logic anyway, which makes your point moot. If you were looking to get in a song released in 2000, this would have made more sense.

Ernest, .....Seriously, what do you think about I Hate U?

Me personally? I love every one of those gold songs, except for "Shy".

You love We March.

I think Gold is a really good album but It could have been great. Replace P Control with Interactive and We March with Acknowledge me and put the 6 minute version of Days of Wild on there.

Anyway back on Topic.

It's tough but I think I'd go for 7.

Whilst Interactive is a great song, you'd then have to drop Endorphinemachine - those 2 songs are way too similar to be on the same album, even if you moved them so they weren't concurrent. So, that's a tough call - I'd imagine it was a tough call for Prince too, as he originally had them both on there and realised one had to go!

Shhh, is a great song! The drums in that song...
But I chose Dionne because it vibes like that other gem "Dorothy Parker".
Both songs are simple and timeless, and they both get me in a mood to smile. I NEVER tire of hearing Dionne and its brilliant to me. Just an easy tune to mix with cleaning, driving, or enjoying as dinner music. I think songs like these mentioned shows the genius of Prince as a song writer. worship

Nothing needs to be replaced. Interactive and Endorphin don't work well back to back either. Everything else is fine. I don't mind putting Days of Wild in place of Shy, though.

I don't really think I'd count Question of U as an 80's song. Joy In Repetition? Yes. It was released in 1990 the way it sounded in 1986. But Question of U? It was barely even a song in 1985. it was new age instrumental take on Under The Cherry Moon at that point. and probably didn't even have a name other than that until he put lyrics to it much later.
