Not extra if you do have the programm instalated in your computer. It is in the e-mail programm from word for woondws. there you can choice if you want to be a member of a group. Surch for alt.prince and you get it. I used to go in there when I had an own computer. It's a cool place. I miss it sometimes. It was great and funny!

alt.music.prince is a Usenet newsgroup.

You'll find the FAQ here:

Some people consider access to the newsgroup via www.groups.google.com (then type in alt.music.prince) is sufficient for their needs to view past activity, but you will not be kept thoroughly up-to-date this way.

Some regular users on a.m.p. and other newsgroups discover the service afforded by some (usually free) ISPs is poor, or gives low priorty to newsgroup access, and they therefore subscribe to a dedicated news service, But you'll probably be better able to judge that once you've accessed and lurked for a while.

In fairness, RD, you are right that org swipes have increased, although not all of them are news - some are simply for amusement ... and that last example I cited about the soundchecks was unfair because you would have had to look on princefams - as the org was being repaired at the time. So I'm being selective. I guess it could be that it's much easier to spot the facts on a.m.p. because of:

1. the abundance of threads on the org, despite using forums

2. lack of search on the org every so often compared to using either a browser or groups.google search

3. tendency for people on the org to post rumour or even speculation masquerading as fact, whereas on a.m.p. because of the audience and the culture, this tends to be weeded out more ruthlessly.

Like yourself, RD, I frequent both ... and how I miss your lengthy exchanges with Mr S. over there.

And some of the "facts" on amp are (not just) knee deep in bias etc. Tell me..WHAT NEWS has there been on amp in the last 3 months that has not been on the org before they got it or at least simultaneously. Just because the news is no longer placed on the org front page as much, its still here in the Prince Forum page. Big deal and better if you ask me (I dont know why , but the Prince forum is perfect for all things Prince, comments and news or otherwise).

And the posting of rumors here has just been so easily spotted and one should know whats right from wrong anyways-they are so obvious lol. Plus amp folks dont have "fact" on lockdown. They just ACT like they do. Dont be fooled. I love amp and its denizens etc but sometimes they trip! AMP has NOT been the leader of amp fact or bootleg info or anythihg Prince in a long damn time. EVERYONE knows this. And the criticism of the org carrying on with diff personalities wacky etc and the content being off and OT etc..um seems like AMP has taken a shine to the orgs ways..amp has plenty of freaky deaky (believe me, trust me on this) and just plain weird people there just as well but they wont say it lol. ..you can see the influence of the org and rd (lol) but it is so canned and forced. I really am sad to see my adoptive mother become like The Road Warrior territoty..but they rebuilding..they rebuilding...I hope they get it right though but the attitude shows its all bogus at this time. but oh well lol. I still love it and them..well "some" of it and "some" of them hehe.Its the truth and sometimes the truth... When have I ever lied to ya? Never.

I got nothing bad to say about AMP - when the org was down a few weeks ago AMP was my source for hook-ups to the NPGMC downloads. People were generous & helpful. Plus its the only place Bart pops up these days since he was driven off the org in the long long ago.

The only reason to visit AMP at the moment is Richard Downer/Liberation.If you're interested in bootleg releases then this guy is worth listening to.
He seems to get a lot of critics on AMP but produces the only posts worth reading.
