interesting times....although I can't get very excited about this....after last year's hype and then letdown...I'll wait and watch on the sideline She has a CD out.. Saw her on TV.. So, I'm not sure about that.. Collaborating? Possibly. Just my opinion. YHWH is Elohim, and Yahoshua is King

orianthi?? really?? think he means Tal Wilkenfeld - she's an amazing bass player who played with Jeff Beck and Stevie W (I think?). It was reported ages ago that she was playing on Shelby J's record, but there were recently rumours she was playing with P too. "We've never been able to pull off a funk number"

oh, wait It's really funny! Actually, many years ago when Prince's website (Love 4 oneanother) was not providing any worthy news updates, I started looking for alternatives. I really got sick of the propoganda on his site, and finally got fed up when they sent out a bulletin in email calling all the dissatisfied customers of Crystal Ball "haters" (remember some were double-charged, others waited months to receive their product). Looking for another source of 'Prince news' was how I found the org. I was so relieved there was a fansite that allowed honest opinions and real speculation to take place. Like the unofficial logo of the org states, "prince.org, because sometimes Prince can be a douche, and we'll say it." Why should he report a new line-up? It's business is it not? If he does not use contracts, someone else could swoop in.. Timberlake hired Mike Scott and Blackwell.. Maybe, Prince moved-on from The Musicology Band, but you never know.. I'm not going to see him in concert, but not reporting band changes and collaborators, seems like a good move from a business perspective. Keep new players under-wraps... They need time to learn, and grow with their new jobs without some people trying to criticize before they play a note. [Edited 3/7/10 14:02pm]

He plays over samples too..according to one of the videos above..
Look.. Funk players are few and far between now..I assume. Players who grew-up trying to mimic the MPLS-Sound with or without Linn-Drum being plugged-into their drum sampler pads.. Brandy has a nice band..or had them. Players move-on, and they want to release their own material. YHWH is Elohim and Yahoshua is King [Edited 3/7/10 14:11pm]

A new drummer is cool I guess, but maybe a producer, co-writer and a studio engineer who knows how to mix a little more creatively would be more of a priority in my books.
...of course unfortunately I know none of that will ever happen.

...of course unfortunately I know none of that will ever happen. There is something definitely going wrong in his studio work, or maybe the word is a lack of creativity or just lazy. I miss all those little touches like the famous intros for "Lets Go Crazy" or "1999" The whole of "When Doves Cry" from beginning to end. All the little flourishes in "Erotic City" with the mix changing every few seconds and slowed down and sped up voices and guitars throughout. There is definitely something lacking in his post 80's work. Even when he tried to incorporate some of those same techniques into his work in the 90's we ended up with something like those grotesque segues in "The Gold Experience" or TRC. With the horrid "Vanessa Bartholomew", The NPG operator, the pussy slurping on "Come" or a cheesy Prince Vadar on TRC.You could tell something was definitely lacking, off and out of tune with his creative spirit. [Edited 3/7/10 20:12pm] Thank you... I can't identify with all these people getting their panties wet over this drummer... we know Prince's live game is TIGHT. He knows how to assemble a band, and get the best out of them. What is missing are people who can inspire the best in him in the studio. "That...magic, the start of something revolutionary-the Minneapolis Sound, we should cherish it and not punish prince for not being able to replicate it."-Dreamshaman32

I agree with johnny, violet, and NPS. This new drummer can play his off ass. So can most of the drummers in the city where I live. What I want is new great Prince album. Hell, I'll settle for a new and great Prince song. I'm sick and tired of the Prince fans being sick and tired of the Prince fans that are sick and tired!

Too many melodies.. The instruments, userbanks, (whatever) don't sound like the record live (no matter what time it was released) Can't recognize the song until the lyrics are recognized first.. Commit to a song Don't get a full song until some "universal anthem song/ballad" is played at the end of the concert.. ...those were the things that were being mentioned when I saw when I last attended a concert.. It has been a problem for several entertainers..I think that solos showcase new band members, and that is good, but I think they also help a singer save their voices for the next show. My Opinion.

I agree that the single"Lotusflow3r" disk is a great record, with "Dreamer" and Colonized Mind" becoming new Prince classics, but as a whole especially when paired with something as abysmal and pedestrian as "MplSound" you get the sense that he has finally run out of original things to say with his music, or even fresh ways to present his music. Even with a standout cut like "Dreamer" you get a sense that it is just a great cover song or at the very least an ode to Hendrix. (an awesome ode at that!) To me "Colonized Mind" would better represent something new from Prince, something befitting an artist of his caliber with a very clever arrangement that is both original and truly feels heartfelt, a song that regardless of your ideology, completely gets the listener immersed in it. To me that is what Prince was about. [Edited 3/8/10 14:15pm]
