John Peel on Prince This one's for UK orgers I suppose....does anyone know what Peel's thoughts on Prince were?
All I can see is that Sign O' The Times was in his Festive 50 in 1987. Did he play him back in the 80s? “If I can shoot rabbits/then I can shoot fascists”

Peel is also famous for his in-studio recording sessions. There are many "John Peel Sessions" CD releases by indie and popular artists - always worth picking up. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

had a wee look in his book but no mention of prince in there....dont think he was a big fan but i would imagine he admired prince's talent.....peel was more into discovering new unknown talent....

He pretty much introduced the UK to The White Stripes.
rip John Peel. Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

Also from TOTP, summer '84, he was running down that week's top ten.
"At number 10, it's the multi-talented Tina Turner." "At number 9, it's the multi-talented Prince." "At number 8, it's the multi-talented Frankie Goes To Hollywood" and so on and so forth until he got to: "and at number 2, it's the...er...it's Nik Kershaw." ― Marcello Carlin, Wednesday, 27 October 2004 13:41 (5 years ago) Da, Da, Da....Emancipation....Free..don't think I ain't..! Just somewhere in the middle,
Not too good and not too bad.

He wasn't a fan. He was openly respectful of Prince's talent but always thought Prince was a bit 'bubblegum' pop. John Peel was more into raw, unheard sounds. All things new if you know what i mean. ----------
