That's why most artists in jazz etc tour Europe exensivley, because Americans just arent having it..our tastes generally suck and we are fast food type of a society. An unknown jazz musician over here in America can make his living, and a good living too, just by touring in Europe.

Sucks ass, man... I'm moving!! biggrin

Is a hardcore fan in the US not as deserving as a hardcore fan in Paris or Tokyo? confused

No.

whofarted sad Why, RD, WHY??? cry

Because we get what we deserve. Im not trying to be anti-American because I love our country with all its faults etc and the semi freedoms we have..but as a whole we expect everything handed to us, get it, dont appreciate it etc. Thats why I had a debate on amp about why I thought us fans do not deserve the long version of Computer Blue etc. to be released by Prince or whomever has it on pristine quality bootleg DAT etc. We would just jam to it for a few and then not appreciate the song etc and put it in the pile of P-songs and await the next jam that we can appreciate for 5 minutes.

It's the trope of the exiled artist... followed by many a black artist in our history who had to go abroad cuz of the fickleness of the American public.

I hear that smile BUT I thought with him doing smaller venues, seemingly tailoring shows more for his true fans & less for the masses, that he would say "fuck it", ya know? I know the American public is a TRIP, but if you're in a small club w/ 500 people who love the shit outta you & paid up the yang just to smile @ you & groove w/ you (hopefully, lol) should you not give it up as if you're @ Nighttown?? smile

I think he's getting there. But his U.S. audience aint too far behind the American public. Still, I think he gave us that at some of the aftershows during ONA in U.S. By the time he got to Europe that stuff was pretty much polished nice and tight. But he'd been dropping gems on us before he went there (Dolphin, Calhoun Square, and Beautiful Strange from Buffalo was the precursor to what he would do at the Celly and later in Europe).

Nighttown was styled as a "second show" i.e., aftershow. Although from what I recall, people had to pay for it, so it was really a second concert... it wasnt the live set he had been doing in concerts even there.

Yea, I'm just jealous b/c the Bay Area got NO aftershow since they had to travel so soon (went to Portland I think, is that why Portland was so funky?)... smile

Alot of things are legal there also Homosexuality and Sex is more Open. People don't carry Guns. Over here it's like the RUNES OF CiVilIzation Sometimes. Quite Awful as we watch Jerry Springer and Ozzy and Sharon on MTV.

I always said Europe got all the best Tours and I cannot Understand Why??? We are Definitely Jealous and wanna hear the same songs that he has played overseas. We Always get the movies here while Europe got the actual show. Also the Nude Tour should have also been here. I know he doesn't do these countries all the time, but Still the USA wants to hear some of these different songs he doesn't always do.

I hear ya, Nova smile but read my response to NPS... maybe I'm silly but I thought he'd be tearing shit up ALL DE TIIIMMME w/ the smaller venue thing. But I guess since said small venues are still in the US (i.e. same "unappreciative" fans) all bets are off, huh? sad

Yeah, see, part of it is that Prince is just a frustrating person to begin with. He's a friggin' tease.

I attended the ONA shows in the US and UK and Europe.

and my opinion is it is none of those things. Prince performs maybe a little better there because more people show up.

I went to some shows in the UK and everyone and everything was great.
And I'm not going to mention any country names in Europe but there is no seats in the venues and there was not a bit of organization of any kind. When we got in the venue the stage that Prince was on was so high if you were close to the stage you couldn't even see Prince a lot of the time.

I wondered if he did this for protection? Or the smoke?
During the soundcheck in one country he had to get after the crowd about 3 times for some reason or other.

I might be 100% wrong, but I think it has to do with numbers.

Ya - it seemed that the Euro leg was more avant garde (so to speak) and jammed out. Especially the aftershows. Even the regular ONA over there had a spunk that was different. As I have said before - I believe the Antwerpen soundcheck was the coolest one he did in 2002. I think the Aladdin show in Vegas had a Euro feel to it. Oh well - the whole year rocked! We should all be happy we were a part of it (regardless of where you saw him).

But you know I wonder if Prince realizes that his fans do get Jeaalous of the fact that he will do different sometimes Rarer songs in Europe and we wanna see him do those songs here, but he doesn't. So many fans were upset with him not doing Sign O The Times or a Batman Tour here. Also why didn't he do a Diamonds and Pearls Show here? One time he had been in town to do a window for Barneys and his NPG band were signing autographs and doing Press and do you know he Never even showed his face. Why?? I myself understand as a Prince fan so long that he doesn't do this or that but sometimes I really wanna know his Reason being certain things he does! So many US fans have been lost and it is just a plain Shame. And they just won't comeback. The Prince mystique Hurt Him Alot. A whole Lot when he didn't have to let it. He was Judged /Viewed in a Negative Light and not able to Defend Himself Properly. He's gotta be more OPEN. He is Thank God and it is Helping People see his Humanness and that he is Indeed a Man. A Gorgeous/Handsome Man and a Talented Musician.

Don't get me wrong - I'm not shitting on the shows he did in the US & I love the opportunity to see him live anytime I can biggrin But I'm trying to understand why he seems to consistently kill it over there & chill over here. Maybe everyone else knows the answer redface but I consider it a valid question... smile

Another thought on this is he tours the US more often.
Like he hadn't been to Japan in 5 years, so he has to make it super memorable.

PRINCE is a GOD in Europe!!

The buzz and energy that the Europeans give him just cannot be matched in the States.

I can imagine him being totally inspired by the energy and craziness of the Euros!!!

Not saying that peeps in the US are not as crazy...but generally speaking there is much more buzz for PRINCE in Europe...

And also the fact that he is in a different country every friggin nite would add to his excitement!!

In short...i just think he gets more excited over there - he's on tour, on holiday, a long way from home and buzzing from it!!!

Well I'm not Poo-Pooing on any shows he does here but well I just wanna see him do the same Odd songs that he does Over there. The shows here that I saw especially Vegas was Great. The aftershows were Phenomenal in N.Y. and Vegas but how can he only do 1 show Here in N.Y.? That makes no Sense. The same fans would wanna see him for 3 nights like when he played Radio City for the Symbol album. Damn,People laughed at me for seeing that show which basically was the same for as many times as I did. But I didn't Care. I just say to myself this is Prince and one will Never fully Understand his Quirkiness, but that makes him very well Loved and it's Endearing actually. I think we Fans dig this Behavior of His.

Black Music&Artists are treated far better there.Quincy Jones&Miles Davis among others have said the same thing about the Warm Greetings&Love they have recieved there.i remember back in 88 when Jackie Wilson hit in the UK with His Song"Tettie Pette" some 30 years after it was released&that too me showed Respect&given it up unlike Here.Hell over Here R.Kelly is considered Old School like with Mary J.Bliege&Wu Tang Clan&Outkast.over here 5 Years is Old timers.in Europe 55 Years&You are still Golden.it ain't right here.it ain't right.
