Nighttown is the jam isn't it...I heard Bataclan and Copenhagen is even better..damn. As Ive stated , he gets more inspired with Europe dates for some reason. he does his best work there it seems. The fans have a better respect for him and his music and he gets that vibe and feeds off of it and becomes even more inspired. Except for that dumbass Bart Van I-should-shut-the-fuck-up-once-in-a-while-cuzz-Im-basically-full-of-shit-Hemelen.

He's definitely more inspired there but explain the respect thing to me, I'm not sure I see it clearly. HOW do they respect him & the music more? Help a newbie out! biggrin

Do I still qualify as a newbie?? confused

I always said Europe got all the best Tours and I cannot Understand Why??? We are Definitely Jealous and wanna hear the same songs that he has played overseas. We Always get the movies here while Europe got the actual show. Also the Nude Tour should have also been here. I know he doesn't do these countries all the time, but Still the USA wants to hear some of these different songs he doesn't always do.

You def aint a newbie..you got skills as far as I can tell etc. Regardless if you were new you got that Prince vibe of music that I call "sexiness" goin on so you honorary longtimer.

But from my perspective they repsect him differently. Hmmm..lemme see..it is as if they appreciate his musicianship more than we do over here. We take him for grantedmore than Europe, even the fanatics stateside. And thats th ekicker..a fanatic aint shit in the whole scheme of thing. A fanatic is just a "behavior" that takes away from the respecting the music etc. So to speak. I dont know if I am explaining myself right.

I feel he did certian things like Nude tour over there because it would not have been economically freasible and a low turnout over here..his popularity isnt the same here for him to do a full scale at that time etc. Over there he is considered a great and someone u "have to' see each time ..a legend already like aMarvyn Gaye etc...here in the U.S. the big build up leads to a fall of the bandwagoners etc. SOTT didn't realy make the stopohere for economics as DMSR stated (as well as him moving on_).

woot! I've been down since the beginning but all this internet business, boots & whatnot is new to me - I feel new around y'all biggrin

I kinda get it, but I guess I'm looking for evidence, i.e. HOW their appreciation manifests itself. Are they a more giving audience (louder clapping & yelling)? Is it b/c he doesn't play there all the time, therefore he gives more & they give more too? How does HE know that he's more appreciated over there?

Im guessing its a vibe..sort of like all of us at the org being in a room-club date ..we know the hits, the boots, the one off songs, the deep album cuts and appreciate them. Im thinking it is like Celebration 2002 vibe..with no bandwagoners or ding dongs in the mix.I would like to attend a show whilst in Europe to have that kind of an audience experience. I bet its cool as fuck. Nobvody putitng on airs etc if you accidently step on someones foot etc or trying to start shit etc.

This makes it a little more clear for me, I think. His status has held tight elsewhere in the world w/ fans & critics alike = greater respect. But the US is so WHACK w/ how we treat real musicians, the masses are so "flavor of the month" = less respect for an artist @ his level. I get that.

That leads me to another question: who's opinion are we talking about? The real fans or press & such? I suppose the two intertwine & somewhat reflect each others tastes (critics & consumers), but when it comes to him deciding who to give it up to, how does it work? Is a hardcore fan in the US not as deserving as a hardcore fan in Paris or Tokyo? confused

It's the trope of the exiled artist... followed by many a black artist in our history who had to go abroad cuz of the fickleness of the American public.

Ahh, so most European fans go deeper than US fans (or average US fans)? Okay, I could see that. This is interesting to me... smile

The fans at the very least..the press has in th e last few years loosend up on his image fun making and started to respect him more etc (but half of that shit is Princves fault anyways), so Im mainly talking 70% fan and 30% press. But even the media has taken a respectable shine to him now imo.

I think MOST of the time, in general that Euro audiences are more open-minded OVERALL than American audiences. And it's not just with Prince, it's usually in general. You'd think an American music genre like jazz would sell more recordings and get patronized more by Americans at jazz gigs, but it's Europe and Japan who outclass Americans with that too.

If you own what you consider to be a great recording by an American artist, and that artist isn't big on the pop charts in America - no matter the reason, there might be a good chance said artist has a very loyal following in Europe or Japan.

I hear that smile BUT I thought with him doing smaller venues, seemingly tailoring shows more for his true fans & less for the masses, that he would say "fuck it", ya know? I know the American public is a TRIP, but if you're in a small club w/ 500 people who love the shit outta you & paid up the yang just to smile @ you & groove w/ you (hopefully, lol) should you not give it up as if you're @ Nighttown?? smile

Paris, the safe haven fro the jazz men and expatriates sick of the U.S. bullshit...and Prince did it with Parade, and it did change him. His music had a vibe to it from that experience (it wasn't all Wendy and Lisas doing like everyone "wants" to believe).

Yup...I love the scene in Mo Betta Blues where they discuss this in a cool ass atmosphere..and its true too. That's why most artists in jazz etc tour Europe exensivley, because Americans just arent having it..our tastes generally suck and we are fast food type of a society. An unknown jazz musician over here in America can make his living, and a good living too, just by touring in Europe.

I hear ya, Nova smile but read my response to NPS... maybe I'm silly but I thought he'd be tearing shit up ALL DE TIIIMMME w/ the smaller venue thing. But I guess since said small venues are still in the US (i.e. same "unappreciative" fans) all bets are off, huh? sad

A long time ago a dancer named Josephine Baker went to Europe actually Paris and became a Big Star. Europe Embraced her and Didn't see her of a Woman of Color. They respected Her. Maybe Prince feels more Loved and Respected there and More comfortable since there aren't any Guns. Also they do Travel all around to see him so maybe he feels they are more Loyal. Don't know. Maybe he has more fans there because he did sell large Stadiums there but even in a town like N.Y. he only played 1 show at a smaller Venue. The Europeans came to the Celebration last year. He has alot of fans everywhere but well I guess we are just Jealous cause we wanna see those tours and Hear those songs. In a nutshell You gotta have $$$ to be into Prince cause Prince is Expensive. Or just move to Europe and take the Train and see him all over.
