I'm talking about the unreleased stuff like the afterparties and private jams and studio gigs etc. I can understand ppl loving this "unauthorized" stuff. Its awesome. Sometimes betta than his releases...but its NOT AUTHORIZED to record it, and worse...SELL IT. I own some of this stuff. I bought it b4 I knew Princes stance on this. I treasure it all too. Its awesome, but I would NEVER sell it or even give it away. Its MINE. AND I wont buy any more, as tempting as it is. Its wrong. Stealing...to be blunt. It IS HIS to control. And how has HE broken the law in the realm of stealing (which is a felony u know)? You were supposed to send them to Paisley Park! You're a hypocrite, plain and simple. . [Edited 3/9/10 3:18am] Returning them IS ridiculous imo, as long as they are not being promoted by me or given away. I have NOT obtained any more since 2005, and I only have acquired a VERY SMALL collection. Like 7 cd's at most before I realized it was against his wishes. But return them? No. The sound sucks, and they now skip for some unknown reasom to me. I hardly ever play them for myself even, as much as I would like to. The people I have a problem with here are STILL obtaining them KNOWING Prince is against it, with excuses like they are FREE, and the fans have a "right" to them, and they continue downloading knowing better!!! I have a problem with stealing from ANY musician, not just Prince! I guess breaking the law in ANY form pisses me off nowadays, and theres ALOT of law breaking going down here... An average person buys 10 kilos of cocaine and has it stashed somewhere in their house. During this time it occurs to them.. all of a sudden.. via a news report on tv "the police do not want me to buy cocaine anymore". The person says "Oh no! I never knew it was *wrong* to buy cocaine. I will not buy cocaine again. But...I bought the 10 kilos before I knew it was wrong. I'm not getting rid of that."
The next day the cops bust down this person's door and the person is arrested, thrown in jail, and tried in front of a jury. The person's defense to the judge?.. "But I bought the cocaine *before* I knew it was illegal." Now imagine the judge's response. Same principle. I'm not going to argue for or against it here. I'm just sayin'... grandebelle said: Returning them IS ridiculous imo, as long as they are not being promoted by me or given away. I see your point Purplepartyman...But...yes...I would argue that I DID NOT know it was illegal...because...IT WOULD BE TRUE!!! And I always feel the truth is ALWAYS the best path to take. I'm assuming IF it was cocaine I didnt know was illegal, it would probobly have been used already, being that it IS a substance that one ingests, and at a rather quick rate depending on how much is used and for how many people...like parties? After having found out it was illegal, I DEFINATELY would NOT use it AGAIN. Being THIS IS Cocaine, IF I had any left, I would gladly return it, but I AM assuming in THIS case it would be GONE. So it is NOT a very good comparison. But as I said hon, I get your point. OK? grandebelle said: Returning them IS ridiculous imo, as long as they are not being promoted by me or given away. Some of these claims are just silly. Here in New Zealand we have a stereotype of Americans being people so eager to sue each other, everytime something goes wrong. Suing dosen't exist here, we take people to something called the disputes tribunal or plain old court.
Whats next,Afro Sheen are going to sue Prince, because he didnt promote their product in 1979 when he switched to a coiffure. So what are u going 2 do? R u just gonna sit there and watch? I'm not gonna stop until the war is over. Its gonna take a long time

NuPwrSoul said: bellanoche said: Ok, so after some of you get done with the usual Prince is an ass/he doesn't know how to do business comments, can we discuss the facts? Do you care?
My question is did they state what exactly he agreed to do with regard to promoting the fragrance? He performed three concerts in MPLS as a tie-in to th release of the perfume. The shows at Macy's and the Target Center had product placement all over. 3121 ads featuring Prince and Chelsea Rodgers were projected on the walls in Macys and free travel-size bottles were handed out at the Target Center concert. People bought the fragrance and others got it for free, but it tanked. Is that Prince's fault? Let's face it, the perfume did not smell that great. If it had, it would have sold itself. I think Prince promoted 3121 as much as any celebrity promotes the fragrances their names are tied to. That's why I wonder if there were any specific duties that he did not satisfy. Well he could have gone with a more reputable company that has experience in developing high end perfumes & distributing them to high end stores. Revelations did NOT. They are more along the lines of Body Axe spray and Parum De Coeur (those fake drug store perfumes). But did he investigate that? Based on his OWN statements, he chose the company NOT because of its reputation in the business, not because of its access to distribution channels, but because their name was Revelation and it reminded him of the Bible. POOR BUSINESS DECISION FROM THE START. Whether they have a legal leg to stand on all depends on whatever actual contract was in place. BUT based on what came out in the lawsuit over the Ireland concert cancellation, it seems as Prince prefers to dwell in ambiguities when making "agreements" with people, so that he has an "out." This again, is BAD BUSINESS and an open door to litigation. If your shit is not clear down to every detail, then an arbiter (i.e., the courts) will be brought in to interpret your paisley-speak. Yes i agree he has made a few poor decisions as of late, however love for my pocket boyfriend and my blind devotion and the comfort of knowing he can do no wrong leaves me to place ALL of the bad choices that he made during that time period in Mani's lap. She was/is a lawyer right? She couldn't help him out?!

I think prince is way too smart and business savy to ever sign anything without there being a definitive understanding between both and all parties involved, there's got 2 b lots more to this story!!!

Prince isn't popular enough to have his own perfume.
But the least he could do was get out there and promote it a little, mention it. Once he stopped promoting the 3121 album, that was it. Not another word about the perfume. I would be mad if I were the perfume company too.

Mani was pretty much out of the picture by the 3121 project, plus she never acted as his legal counsel (she studied law in college, but never attended law school and never was a lawyer or presented herself as such). And Londell seemed to have been out of the picture by then as well. So neither of them seem to be the blame for this. Strange how it took so long. Considering also in the contract Prince didnt have 2 promote the item, it didnt make clear what promotion had 2 be done. He sold it with his merchandise and put it on posters, what more could he do?

I don't get it? Since when does Prince do what Prince don't want to do and since when does he not pay for what he signs up to do but does not do? Prince Knowingly will take a fine over any ounce of feeling incorrect in his skin, I thought that was one of the many things I like about the man, for a man who does not know what he is doing he sure can afford not knowing.
