Ok, so after some of you get done with the usual Prince is an ass/he doesn't know how to do business comments, can we discuss the facts? Do you care?

My question is did they state what exactly he agreed to do with regard to promoting the fragrance? He performed three concerts in MPLS as a tie-in to th release of the perfume. The shows at Macy's and the Target Center had product placement all over. 3121 ads featuring Prince and Chelsea Rodgers were projected on the walls in Macys and free travel-size bottles were handed out at the Target Center concert. People bought the fragrance and others got it for free, but it tanked. Is that Prince's fault?

Let's face it, the perfume did not smell that great. If it had, it would have sold itself. I think Prince promoted 3121 as much as any celebrity promotes the fragrances their names are tied to. That's why I wonder if there were any specific duties that he did not satisfy.

Well he could have gone with a more reputable company that has experience in developing high end perfumes & distributing them to high end stores. Revelations did NOT. They are more along the lines of Body Axe spray and Parum De Coeur (those fake drug store perfumes). But did he investigate that? Based on his OWN statements, he chose the company NOT because of its reputation in the business, not because of its access to distribution channels, but because their name was Revelation and it reminded him of the Bible.

POOR BUSINESS DECISION FROM THE START.

Whether they have a legal leg to stand on all depends on whatever actual contract was in place. BUT based on what came out in the lawsuit over the Ireland concert cancellation, it seems as Prince prefers to dwell in ambiguities when making "agreements" with people, so that he has an "out." This again, is BAD BUSINESS and an open door to litigation. If your shit is not clear down to every detail, then an arbiter (i.e., the courts) will be brought in to interpret your paisley-speak.

YES, MUSIC AND PERFUME DO NOT MIX...He should just stick with making his music. Greed can do some terrible things to some. The outcome even more terrible. It is only the beginning of things to COME...

That's honest and I appreciate it, but it's also why my posts here get fewer and farther between. Nothing personal to you, but it just seems that many folks around have no interest in facts or even logic. They just want to criticize and crack jokes. sad

Maybe I'll find out the facts somehwere else.

I HATE TO SAY THIS... smile BUT PEOPLE HERE WANNA BLAME HIM FOR ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING BECAUSE HE SUES THEM FOR STEALING HIS MUSIC AMONG OTHER THINGS...ITS TIME THEY HEAR PRINCE'S SIDE. ANY YES, THE FACTS!

STOP SHOUTING! smile

This is not new for Prince when it comes to business.
He seems to do things on a whim.
He'll say yes lets do this and by the time it happens he's already lost interest and is onto something else.

DONT COMPLAIN WHEN HE DONT DO ANY MORE CONCERTS FOR U INGRATES.

I am sure its not lost on you that we pay for tickets to see him perform - its not like its some benevolent gift!

I personally love his music but wonder about his business practices. It appears as an outsider looking in that he appears ambivalent at best as regards anyone around him and how they are affected by his decisions.

This legal spat is once again about a contract that it's alleged he didnt complete; just as was the Croke Park issue. Obviously may be coincidental but unlikely in my opinion. The perfume company will have relied upon the obligations upon him in making their decision as to whether to enter into the contract or not. We of course don't know whether he did or didnt do what he was meant to - but they clearly feel he didnt hence the action continues. Am intrigued by the suggestion that there are allegations of fraud and that they have been allowed to continue....Will watch this unfold with interest.

You dont have to love the man to love his music..... biggrin

do u think that if the judge actually smelt the stuff, he might also decide that purchaser's could sue both sides for 'false advertising' ?

(although saying that, i guess u could technically say that a skunk, has a certain 'perfume' about it)

i haven't tried, but i imagine u could strip paint with the stuff

having said all that, if the last few days of legal miss-fortune means a return visit to the o2 arena this summer, then BRING IT ON!!!

that's what happens in any business, all this bad press my be in our favour as he'll will release music to counter or take advantage of the bad press!

Prince wins again!

'Tis the business, you're nobody 'till everybody's suing you.

Shit, MJ had more court cases that hit songs in the '90s early this decade.

At least the only time Prince was in court regarding minors it was normal. Do Me Baby could have taken on another meaning altogether.

And how easily pleased are some people? 3121 an awesome album? Hmmm. Wish my taste was so readily appeased. Please don't shout at me grandebelle.

So, he's having a good year so far. Nobody liked the song much, some bird off youtube is in for a quick buck, the Ireland gig cost more than turning up (thanks for the trip to Dublin though Prince, I had a great time) and now some company is saying you didn't keep to your word (don't you just hate people that say they will and then don't?) over some gimmick. Did anybody ever buy a bottle of that Jade Goody perfume? Thought not.

On an off topic, is MzSexyQueen dead or something? Haven't seen a post for weeks.

The company claims that Prince stopped all communication in July 2007 and refused further promotional efforts, and thereby breaching the contract. If this is true, they are well within their rights to sue his litigious ass.

he did have 21 nights in London to focus on, '3121' was all over the walls and the Planet Earth album cover. admittedly only in type rather than aroma...

Prince did what Prince does.

He takes the money, then gets bored and cries off. When he was a superstar, people let him get away with it. Now his utter disregard for others is coming back to haunt him.
