Prince 3CD? Oh man, a career-spanning Prince comp along the lines of the recent three-disc 'DYLAN' one -- and that unified his Warner Bros. and NPG catalogues -- would be great, especially in terms of helping introduce newbies to his latter-day output.
...If it happened, though, what tracks would you want to see (keep in mind -- eighty minutes to a disc)? For my part, I would opt for these fifty tracks: DISC 1: 1978-1984 1. Soft And Wet 2. I Wanna Be Your Lover [7"] 3. I Feel For You 4. Dirty Mind [7"] 5. When You Were Mine 6. Uptown [7"] 7. Controversy [7"] 8. Do Me, Baby 9. 1999 [7"] 10. Little Red Corvette 11. Delirious [7"] 12. Let's Pretend We're Married [7"] 13. Let's Go Crazy 14. Erotic City [7"] 15. When Doves Cry 16. I Would Die 4 U 17. Purple Rain Obvious omissions: "Why You Wanna Treat Me So Bad", "Head", "Let's Work", "Irresistible Bitch", Take Me With U" DISC 2: 1985-1991 1. Paisley Park 2. Raspberry Beret 3. Pop Life 4. Kiss [7"] 5. Mountains 6. Sign 'O The Times [7"] 7. U Got the Look 8. If I Was Your Girlfriend [7"] 9. I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man [7"] 10. Adore 11. Cindy C. 12. Alphabet St. [7"] 13. Thieves In The Temple 14. Gett Off 15. Cream 16. Diamonds and Pearls [7"] 17. Money Don't Matter 2 Night [A self-made edit that trimmed off 30s more or so than the radio one, to fit the comp] Obvious omissions: "Girls & Boys", "Glam Slam", "Batdance", "Partyman", "New Power Generation" DISC 3: 1992-2009 1. My Name Is Prince [7"] 2. Sexy MF 3. 7 4. Nothing Compares 2 U [Hits/B-Sides Version] 5. P Control 6. The Most Beautiful Girl In The World 7. Dolphin 8. Dinner With Delores 9. Betcha By Golly Wow! 10. So Far, So Pleased 11. Musicology 12. Cinnamon Girl 13. Black Sweat 14. Lolita 15. Guitar 16. Dance 4 Me Obvious omissions: "Letitgo", "I Hate U", "Endorphinmachine", "Jam Of The Year", "The Holy River", "The Greatest Romance Ever Sold", "U Make My Sun Shine", "Call My Name", "Fury", "Crimson And Clover" [Edited 3/3/10 9:18am] [Edited 3/3/10 9:20am]

The first 2 are great, but to introduce a newbie to this stuff... I'd definately have Gold on there, The One, Peach, i hate u, Holy River, Fury, (video version with backing singers) I'd happily ditch P control, Cinnamon Girl, Dolphin, So Far So pleased & Lolita, they're not even singles (apart from Cinnamon Girl), and I don't think they show him at his best. Beef up disc 3 and I'm in! blah blah blah

Eek, what does it say about his post-WB input when disc 3 covers 17 years?

Beef up disc 3 and I'm in! There were promo singles released for "P Control" and "Dolphin". I agree with ditching "P Control" but "Dolphin" and "Cinnamon girl" are some of my favorites of this era. Making love and music are the only things worth fighting for.
