That crack about a fifty year old making music is dumb when you only need to mention one name: Bob Dylan. The guy has made two albums in 5 years that have both received five star reviews from Rolling Stone. Prince hasn't had a five star review since Sign. Until he leaves the cult expect the music to stink. Now your post is officially void as Rolling Stone also gave Britney Spears and Keyshia Cole's lame albums almost classic ratings too so they have always been cast off for "reviews" since 1999 and up. How you going to compare Prince to a magazine that has been going downhill in reviews for YEARS now? Straight Jacket Funk Affair

Well, Prince, I'm pouring out (some) of my Dr. Pepper to remember that you used to be great. Here's to you, Skipper. Just go and cling 2 your dusty, outdated 'The Gold Experience' CD then. Prince's writing and musical skills have evolved tremendously, and continue 2, unlike any other musical artist in history. Lotus had great songs!!! People think if he doesnt have an album with 95% hit worthy songs that he has lost it. Prince could have cut down Lotus to 10 of the best songs and people would be praising him for returning to greatness!

I don't "fail" on either of the 2 points I made. Thanks 4 numbering my post, but there's really only 2 points... I only want 2 address one point though... How can anyone argue that Prince hasn't evolved musically? On every instrument, including voice, he has constantly been getting better with time, so 2 speak. Here's one example: His Guitar playing now is FAR better than it was in the '80s. More technically proficient, more diverse, and even more expressive. As far as my saying "unlike any other musical artist in history"... Every single group and solo artist I can think of (besides Prince) has "burned out", as far as their skills go, almost regardless of what instrument, but particularly with guitar and voice. Now U will mention his song writing... If anyone here cannot hear the beauty of the song "Here", then something is most definitely wrong with their perception and listening ability. Sorry, but it's true. That song is a tremendous masterwork, both musically and lyrically. That whole argument over whether he "still has it" is ridiculous. He is being himself moreso than anything he did in the '90s, and at a time where it's quite bold 2 do so... a time where mostly all contemporary music is shallow, bland, and largely talentless. . Well, considering they gave MPLSound the same 3.5 stars as Controversy, I'd say he hasn't lost much of anything...according to Rolling Stone. Which is kind of like saying according to my roll of Charmin. [Edited 3/2/10 11:51am] "New Power slide...."

Prince has lost it?!?!?!?!?!
Lemme say this... If Usher would have released "Chocolate Box" it would have been a hit single. If Nickle Back or Doughtry would have released Crimson and Clover, it would have been a hit single. If Beyonce would have released Feel Good Feel Better Feel Wonderful, it would have been a hit single. Why them, and not Prince? He doesnt have a Major RECORD LABEL that is willing to back him and push him. (much like WB used to) Prince pissed off the record industry and continues to do so. So he will not have a hit single. But my main point is...he has the songs, he has the talent..but he isnt what the record industry wants to push anymore. He hasnt lost "it". The record industry just wants to lose HIM.

Just to add to ur post, I think that a lot of people here don't realize that "pop" music means that it is "popular". We live in a society where any music act over the age of 40 is considered "old" and not "hip". It's not that the talent isn't there, but music (like anything else) has a particular place and time for society. To think that Prince would have a Top 40 music hit in 2010 is crazy! Society's musical taste has evolved from musicianship and talent to beauty and "carrying a tune". Sure, there are some that sink through the cracks that actually have talent, but in all, there aren't that many "talented" acts that hit the top-40. We live in an "instant" society. A song can be hot today and forgotten about the next. Think about it, how many songs on "top 40" radio are over 5 years old? What about 10 years old? Not many. In the 70s and 80s, it was not uncommon to hear a 5 or 10 year old song in regular rotation on a top 40 station. Now, that is a rare occasion. Ok, I've rambled enough. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

he is a better musician than he has ever has been So very very true That might even be true. But the sound he produces nowadays are not immediately recognisable as Prince. The arrangements and the texts are no where close to wat it was. He needs to get some other inspiration than religion. He needs to work again with people who inspire him, who can contribute to his musio, not people that are inspired by him or look up to him. I'd say; give Claire Fisher a call, get some strings in your music and have it properly arranged. Didn't the whole percussive element of blues come from enslavement?
People always work better when forced into constraints. Freedom is never what we imagine. The 80s are over. Thanks Prince for making my life richer.

whatever...I still wanna be critical towards Prince's ouput: I'm no robot that likes everything Prince has ever released.
Imo Prince hasn't evolved for the positive --- since 1995 he has been on decline.... Giovanni: "Prince's writing and musical skills have evolved tremendously, and continue 2, unlike any other musical artist in history."
haha really: I can't help laughing at this comment. I just have to disagree on this, NPS, Rave, The Vault, Musicology, 3121, Planet Earth, these are not "memorable" like 1999, PR, ATWIAD, Parade, SOTT, Lovesexy. and.... this is my opinion..... it doesn't make me a "Prince hater". Prince 4Ever.

Prince still makes great music and is a brilliant performer.
The 'Lotusflow3r' album was a real highlight for me. Recent songs I consider equal to his 80's work (at the very least), discounting funk jams and work-outs: 'Colonized Mind' 'Dreamer' 'Somewhere Here On Earth' 'The Dance' 'A Million Days' 'Reflection' 'Avalanche' 'When Eye Lay My Hands on U' 'I Love U But I Don't Trust U Anymore' 'The One' The entire 'The Truth' album. There are gems on everything Prince releases. Funk is its own reward.

I think people are mistaking the handling of the 'Lotusflow3r' site with Prince's music.
Damn, 'Cause and Effect' is not that bloody bad. In fact I like it, including 'F.U.N.K'. Not sure about 'Purple and Gold', but then again, there are a few songs on 'Parade' I'm not certain about either for F's sake. Are we seriously suggesting 'Dreamer', 'Colonized Mind' 'Feel Good, Feel Wonderful', 'Crimson and Clover', 'Black Sweat', 'The Dance', 'The Word', 'Illusion, coma, Pimp & Circumstance', 'Cinnamon Girl', 'Reflection', 'Call my Name', When Eye Lay my Hands on U', 'Love' (acoustic) are not goood songs? Come on people. This seems an over-reaction to me. I don't appreciate the way the website has been handled but this is ridiculous.

I am not a mufuckin "FAM" as you stupids say... I just appreciate good music and genius like musicianship. And if you don't understand it... don't listen and dont critisize. caus there is not another artist in the last decade who can match up to princes output and talent... Like prince says... "how can a non-musician discuss the future of music from anything other than a consumer point of view." so just relax, and if you don't like the new more mature sounding stuff. go listen to "Head" off your old azz dirty mind vinyle. thank you and have a sweet mother funkin' day...
