Lets make a toast to remember how great Prince used to be.

It's pretty clear from Purple 'n Gold and Cause and Effect that Prince can no longer write meaningful music and that any hope of a great new Prince song or album is deader than dead. But Prince will always be a legend, no matter if he realizes 100 bad albums in a row. So this thread is to show appreciation for Prince's past work and accomplishments, kind of like spilling out some champagne when your homie dies.

Well, Prince, I'm pouring out (some) of my Dr. Pepper to remember that you used to be great. Here's to you, Skipper. smile

Rockability

Man I was all about to leave this joint for another year and took one last look at the forum. That's when I saw this post. Grats! You're obviously not the typical sucka that feeds off the propaganda here. Sure, its a "fan" site, but when the artist is making shit for years and years, a fan site should be honest and let the "arteest" know that he'd better get back to work, back to the basics. But alas I think I agree with you. He's just simply flat out lost the ability.

Toast!

I just don't understand how someone thinks that a 50 year old's writing would be the same as a 25 or even 35 year old person. I don't get it?!?

Prince was pure genius. Then he wanted to be a "Free" artist - and the quality went down,

But let's remember the brilliant music and forget the bad.

Hopefully the vaults contains some interesting music.

But will this ever be released?

Strange - and a mystery - if the vaults contains 500 unreleased songs - and yet he is releasing the bad ones.....

now we all know not to give up on our man quite that easily wink

Ok, so some of us are disappointed with this track - kinda reminds me of the reaction Te Amo Corazon got when it first aired; and, IMO, 3121 had some gems as an album. Prince is hardly renowned for releasing strongest album tracks first lol

I refuse to believe prince, 'is a washed up singer.' Maybe he just needs a new muse.

I'll keep the champagne on ice for now.

NONSENSE

Prince gets better with time. Y'all need to check yourself. How can you diss an artist who has released as much amazing material as Prince? Think about it and be grateful he still takes the time to record and release music.

I cannot imagine music without Prince.

age has nothing 2 do with it,

actually at time U would think(I do)it would be the opposite

I actually love the lyrics, its just the music isn't so interesting, 4 me
And 4 all we know this is still a work in progress...

So I'm going 2 let it be what it is, hope he goes into the an old warehouse studio in Minneapolis, calls the real old school gang... and put's the real music to it

Those who leave... Be safe out there

when you love the music the experience the people you've met you ride it out till the end until Prince says this is the last tour... and his good stuff outweighs what one may NOT like.

This song live will be killer no doubt do I love the tone of the lyrics ? not so much

Obviously the person who started this post has no musical exp what so ever.
I do agree that prince's albums has changed ALOT ,and i have stopped buying them.
I like prince for his musicianship ,like guitar playing.
I seen the guitar (unaired performance) and he rocked the house.
I then heard the studio version, and it was weak.
Prince dosent have to make "radio" hit any more like he use to,so you have to keep that in mind.
Id much rather see him in concert , club or arena ,but no albums for me.

I agree with you Mayrain. Most don't have a clue. Prince is going to continue to do God's will. His new song proves this. Prince is one of the greatest and he's always going to be great in my book. Even if he never becomes an easy person to get along with. razz lol

Better or worse or different? What's your point? All kinds of people who write, be it music or prose, have been on an upward trek through their lives.

All of it.

I have this debate with people that tell me that Prince has "lost it" and is not a good songwriter anymore. I don't agree with that. A lot of people here (I'm not referring to you per se) think P should continue to write songs like SOTT, Erotic City, etc. and P is not at that place now.

To me, your surroundings are the muze for an artist to create work. Prince has grown as a person and doesn't travel the world like he used to. Sure, he goes to do a show or promote a project, but this is not 1985 or 1992 when he was constantly touring. I'm sure his circle of friends has changed drastically from his hey day and that would mean that his writing would change.

No, he's not going to write another "DMSR" nor will he write another "Diamonds and Pearls", but he will continue to write about the things around him.

Well, I guess you were speaking for yourself when you posted this. You are entitle to your opinion it not Constructive Criticism. Prince will be an legend until he dies. People are going to still listen to his music. You are the Minority not Majority. No disrespect, people are still going to listen to his music.. Cause and Effect is a great song too me. You have to respect your opinion that Cause and Effect wasn't good for you. You had to pour out some Dr. Pepper to remember that Prince was great.. Man thats deep.. Prince is still great.. Here's to Skipper: Rock God with "Thunder and Lightning Guitar"..

AMEN!!!

And the only way i can respond to this post is, "Prince, where in the _ell do you pick up all these crazy fanatics from?!!?"
Prince did an interview with a woman at Record World. They talked about whatever, then he asked her: "Does your pubic hair go up to your navel?" At that moment, we thought maybe we shouldn't encourage him to do interviews.

Boring topic...next. Prince has always made the same music. This is no different than anything else he has done. Parade, AWTIAD, Batman, Graffiti Bridge, Emancipation, the list goes on. Come on the only reason you feel this way is that things are not like they used to be on the music scene. If Cause and Effect was on Sign O the Times you would have loved it

amen to that BUT as we all well know he has a tonne of unreleased trax that can be cleaned up etc. Also his genius is just locked away for now and NOT lost. I really do think that the LF disc was at least step back in the right direction i.e. the guitar was back and free, songs had some great melodies and structure etc. Yes the last 2 trax were dire and the last few CD's were just O.K. with some great moments BUT he is more than capable of delivering. All I want is a 10 track killer CD , with the right people sitting with him in the studio he can achieve that, left alone his legacy and talent will continue to wane away.
That said, when he steps onto the stage and kicks it live he is still the King...mostly!.
