computer blue...

when the movie purple rain first came out, computer blue was my least favorite song.

now after a couple of decades and change, it's one of my favourite prince songs.

after hearing the soundtrack version, as well as some boots..it has everything.
it's an uptempo song. a GREAT guitar solo(s) (*i still wonder if prince did the dueling guitars himself, of if it was him and lisa), passion in his vocals..
to me, its a perfect prince song.

just sayin.

There are times when I listen to that and think that it's the best thing he's ever done. When I get into that song...I damn well really get into that song.

U mean Wendy, right? Lisa plays the keyboards. and yes, it was and is one of his sickest jams!
If it breaks when it bends, U better not put it in!

It was always one of my favorites, the movie performance is nasty...

I love the 7 min one the 11 min(he says tell me what the fuck is wrong) one the 14 min one

and yeah thats Wendy, I have a copy of a 11 min rehearsal and what we hear is live

Really wild song, raw and sweaty
This song should never be performed again unless with the Revolution members

I didn't care for Computer Blue when it first came out either, but it grew on me after I wore out the other songs on the LP. It's one of my top 20 Prince songs for sure, especially the longer 7:30 version. The segue from Computer Blue to Darling Nikki is absolute fucking emotional brilliance - the best 1-2 punch in Purple history.

Computer Blue

Wendy?

Yes Lisa

Is the water warm enough?

Yes Lisa

Shall we begin?

Yes Lisa

Ow!

Where is my love life?
Where can it be?
There must be something wrong with the machinery
Where is my love life?
Tell me, where has it gone?
Somebody please, please tell me what the hell is wrong

CHORUS:
Till I find the righteous one
Computer blue
Till I find the righteous one
Computer blue

Oh

Where is my baby?
Where can she be?
Somebody please, please tell me what is wrong with me

Where is my baby?
Where has she gone?
Somebody please, please tell me what the hell is wrong

CHORUS

Yeah

The computer's on the verge of breakdown!

Come on
Oh baby, don't make me

Poor lonely computer
It's time someone programmed U
It's time U learned love and lust
They both have 4 letters
But they're entirely different words
Poor lonely computer
Poor, poor lonely computer
Do U really know what love is?

(Na, na, na, na, na)
Wave your hands in the air!
Now everybody sing it! (Na, na, na, na, na)
Everybody work out
Work out, work out (Na, na, na, na, na)
Everybody work out
Work out, work out (Na, na, na, na, na)
Everybody work out

He didn't like living alone
The house where he lived had many hallways
It was a long walk 2 his bedroom
Because 2 him each hallway represented an emotion
Every one vastly different from the next
One day while she was with him
He decided 2 name each one
She walked by his side, one hand on his thigh
No - she was sort of half a step behind him
Yeah, the grip on his thigh intensified
As they walked slowly through the corridor
He named the hallway "Lust"
And as they passed through the next one
He named it "Fear"
The grip she now loosened
So he walked faster
Her hands now trembling
She let dropped 2 her side as he wrote the word "Insecurity"
He looked into her eyes and smiled a demon smile
And quickly walked onto the next
Corridor after corridor
He named almost all when suddenly… he stopped
He picked up the word "Hate"
She was gone
So he picked up another – "Pain"

On the verge of a breakdown
What is life without love?
It's hell, Computer Blue!

Father, Father, the sun is gone
(Father, Father) The Dawn, the Dawn
Father, Father, where is the Dawn?
(Where is the Dawn, Father?)
(Na, na, na, na, na) {x2}
Na, na, na, na, na

Shall I go 2 church on Sundays?
Shall I stay home and pray?
Shall I try 2 make her happy?
Shall I try 2 make her stay?

Where is my love life?
Tell me, where can it be?

Narrow-minded computer
(Somebody please, please tell me…)
It's time someone programmed U
(Somebody please, please tell me what's wrong with me)
It's time U learned women are not butterflies
They're computers 2
Just like U Computer Blue
(Where is my baby?)
Chauvinistic computer
It's time someone programmed U (Na, na, na, na, na)
U fall in love 2 fast and hate 2 soon
And take 4 granted the feeling's mutual
(The feeling's mutual!)
We're computers 2
Just like U, Computer Blue

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah!

I am surprised we even have to discuss the quality of Computer Blue... eek

this song is part of "the holy Prince-grail" to me....

I have always loved Computer Blue, pure genius of a song: especially the W&L intro and the "Fathers Song" guitar solo part,

I think Prince himself named Computer Blue his "coldest song ever" (something like this), IIRC... but I have always absolutely loved it.....

maybe it's the most edgy rock-combined-with-funk Prince song ever?

HELL YES. I'll sometimes rewind it several times just to hear that segue. It is absolutely flawless, and I'd dare to call it the best I personally have ever heard music

That whole freakin' album is just majic!!! Computer blue, the beautiful ones, take me with you and even darling nikki were so under rated when the album came out. I just love the whole album through and through. It is so rare today to find any cd's that you like every single song on it. Artist today have 1 to 3 good songs on their albums and 10 to 13 worthless jams.

Actually, he said that about Darling Nikki, "the coldest song ever written..." in RS in 1990.
I agree, and I would think most fans do, Computer Blue is in some rarified zone, holy grail, grand progression, etc. Absolutely brilliant.

the Beautiful Ones & Computer Blue, I always play back 2 back

just the raw emotion and energy
the Beautiful Ones overtakes u in waves of synth linn guitar bass(I love the unedited version)
then I go right into the 7 min or 11 min version of Computer Blue-this 1 feels like they performed this one late on a Saturday night at a sweaty sticky night club with cheap alcohol
