Prince was being a spoiled brat, protesting over a contract HE signed. I thought it was stupid then and I still think it's stupid.

If u all remember by the time it was presented as being a spiritual thing much more than a contract thing, and it was just, yeah, eccentric, & creative, & daring, & just-the-shit-that-no-one-had-ever-dared-doing-before...

The mere fact that so many people laughed at him & ceiticized him 4 doing it showed how cool it was!

I think that when Prince signed the most expensive contract in rock & roll history, being also named vice-president of WB, he imagined he could at last do whatever he wanted to & release whatever he wanted to and of course that ended up with "Carmen Electra" being a commercial disaster and "O+>" not selling as much as WB expected it to sell and WB wanting to release a best of that Prince didn't want to release and WB shutting down Paisley Park and refusing to release "Goldnigga"...

I'm not saying Prince wasn't somehow erratic in some ways: he shoulda gone indie BEFORE he signed that contract, but still i think that he was highly disappointed by how little power he had over his music's release after he signed...

& if you take it from either a "spiritual" or a "media coup" point of view, it really was cool in both cases anyway ^^

Prince has not really been all that scandalous an artist.
Maybe he needs to drum up something now.

Of course, his biggest "scandal" was the battle with Warner Bros. & the name-change. It was a career defining move...but in a way, it was positive.

Nowadays, his symbol is almost just as recognizable as the Warner Bros.' "WB" shield. It was a genius marketing strategy....He basically re-invented himself into a brand name, just as identifiable as the name "Prince". It was cool when he brought it back during the 3121 and Planet Earth eras...especially the Super Bowl.

There he was, in front of one of the largest crowds he ever played for at once, on a stage shaped as the symbol, ripping up the symbol guitar! He was rubbing it into the mainstream's faces...saying "ha, u made fun of the name, but hey, I'm still here." Now, when anyone 18 and up sees the symbol, they automatically know who it stands for. And everyone back in the day wondered what the hell the symbol meant... wink

haha yeah, Lotus didn't get him in the media here (in Denmark / Europe)..

maybe a little Prince scandal would be good... at least the mainstream would know about he's not dead or gone?

Or else.... he could just release a killer album,

but who believes Prince is able doing so, anymore ?

I think he should sue himself for being a knob, scrawl 'Dave' on his face, write a song about a porpois, communicate via a sock puppet and get a new guitar the same shape as my avatar.

If that doesn't fire up his creative juices and get him some publicity, I dunno what will.

I miss the Gold era, can you tell? biggrin

I don't think Prince has had any real scandals in the true definition of the word.

Wearing briefs on stage was purposed, that's not a scandal...

Probably the closest was not paying or giving credit to musicians...
But even that most people didn't know about, even Prince fans
2 many fans don't see Prince as doing anything wrong

But again, Scandals, I don't know of...

Scandelous is another thing

Ah ok. They changed it over here in the UK from Kentucky Fried Chicken to KFC, probably about 20 years ago now.

Back when Prince rented Carlos Boozers house and painted it purple and installed salon chairs and whatnot...some news outlets tried to say that right after Prince left they found teen porn and drugs in the house. I always knew it was crap but that's about the only thing I can think of that even comes closed to scandal by today's standards.

Yep. The name change. In terms of both intial impact and lasting damage. He's never quite recovered from that one.

Seems like i remember reading that Mayte's sisters were possibly sueing Prince for wrongful death of his baby. Not 100% sure if it was her sisters, but I remember something about wrongful death accusations.
I remember being disgusted with with it, because it wasnt his fault, and he had to make a very difficult decision.
