We are not talking abotu 4 the Tears in Your Eyes which is NOT a song from ATWIAD and is very much a part of the PR era musically and historically. neither is Under the Cherry Moon from ATWIAD hell he did some lines from Hot Thing during the Parade tour:Head performance NightGod, post is the only other one that mentioned Raspberry Beret And I don't believe you knew that either. Why couldn't u have just posted UR facts...where are they... Why couldn't u just add your piece without being a dick? Why are you so defensive, little one? Are you hurt because I laid out some facts? I pulled my information, sans attitude, from Per Nilsen's DMSR book. Call him if you're upset about being proven wrong. You said: the Syracuse 1985 show was a Purple Rain tour, America was the only one featured on the PR tour near the end of the tour
You were wrong. I said "that's not true". I don't remember calling you a dick or anything else, like you did - being argumentative, and such. I listed "4 The Tears In Your Eyes", because 1) it was a 1985 era song, and 2) it was played on the tour as a then-unknown song. #2 was an added piece of information. I listed UTCM as yet another then-unknown song played on a tour a full year earlier (showing Prince was obviously recording new music while on tour). You'd probably be less offended if you did the homework. I pull a lot of my answers from DMSR when I'm not sure, opposed to just laying out stuff like "the Syracuse 1985 show was a Purple Rain tour, America was the only one featured on the PR tour near the end of the tour " and calling it real. You know, this isn't a contest to see who knows more Prince trivia. I couldn't care less who knows more. (However, my vote is for Boris Fishpaw or Squirrelgrease, off the top of my head.) You thought you knew something, you stand corrected. "America" wasn't the only ATWIAD song performed on the PR tour. End of story. We've all misspoke at times as well. To simply admit that and move on, it's called being an adult, kiddo. Let It Go kiddo

I knew that he previewed some of the ATWIAD songs, but I didn't realize there were so many other songs that were performed on the tour as well. I have the Atlanta and Miami boots, but they were pretty much the same as the Syracuse show. It's too bad there aren't more soundboard quality boots with some of those one off songs being performed. Around the World in a Day, Condition of the Heart, Raspberry Beret, Pop Life, America, the Ladder were performed on the Parade tour the Syracuse 1985 show was a Purple Rain tour, America was the only one featured on the PR tour near the end of the tour there was a mini concert in Paris during the shoot of Under the Cherry Moon where the video 4 America was shot, Paisley Park was a part of the concert. We got "Raspberry Beret" in March of 1985 during the Purple Rain tour in SF. [Edited 2/16/10 8:42am] "Always blessings, never losses......"

I think that's true. And the same can be said for Nothing Compares 2 U. First, I think Prince feels he deserves credit and, rightly, he does. Sinead would have been a b-list underground angry bald chick had it not been for NC2U being a ginormous hit. Prince isn't responsible for Sinead's burst of success, but he is responsible for that song originally, and no matter who covers it, the fingers do need to point back to him as a great songwriter. The same goes for Boring Keys when she covered "HCUDCMA". It came out in the summer of 2001. It didn't even crack the top 20, despite a video being all over BET and MTV at at the time. Her version seemed a bit more of an attempt to gain street cred by joining up with Prince. She tried to use her talent as her bling, and flashed it to everyone. No one was that impressed. A cover song should always point back to the original artist/writer. It's simple in that the new artist wouldn't have a song to work with but for the fact that the original song existed. Yes, they'll have other songs, but when you choose to dip into the song cauldron of someone else, respect has to be paid. In 1998, Prince said, "Some do it for the right reasons, and some do it because they want a piece of the purple pie". Keys wanted the pie. Sinead probably felt it was a great song lyrically, and musically. Why would we expect Prince to just sit on one of his songs when someone covers it and has a huge hit with it? We can't fault him for pulling it out of the closet and playing it in concert. Alan Leeds was right when, in the liner notes of The Hits/The B-sides, that by the time The Family and Sinead recorded the song, "Prince was damn near obligated to record it himself". He was right. It's not like Prince had his own version for people to judge. It was The Family who had the definitive version to that point (yes we know it's Prince's instrumentation, etc). But by 1991 when everyone had had their fill of it with Sinead, there's no way he could have ignored that momentum and not recorded it himself, or released some version that he'd performed. He didn't need that with HCUDCMA, because he already had his version out as the standard to judge by. He HAD to do NC2U. That's not a plea for attention, it was credit where credit was due. I wonder how much we'd mind if all the REAL songwriters of Beyonce songs came out from under the paychecks, and hush orders, and said, "That shit is MINE, here's the proof. Give me credit."
