ATWIAD songs live

Listening to the Syracuse show from 1985 and I noticed the absence of songs from ATIWAD. Did Prince not play a lot of these songs live very often? I know people tend to be a bit negative about the album but I'm a big fan. Admittedly that's because some of it's just hilariously bad.

Around The World In A Day wasn't released until the month after the Syracuse show. The Parade Tour in 1986 had several ATWIAD songs on the set list.

Around the World in a Day, Condition of the Heart, Raspberry Beret, Pop Life, America, the Ladder
were performed on the Parade tour

the Syracuse 1985 show was a Purple Rain tour, America was the only one featured on the PR tour near the end of the tour

there was a mini concert in Paris during the shoot of Under the Cherry Moon where the video 4 America was shot, Paisley Park was a part of the concert.

Well, although it was recorded, ATWIAD hadn't been released when the Syracuse show was recorded. The Syracuse show was part of the Purple Rain tour, and thus, focused more on the Purple Rain material. But over the years, he has played a lot of ATWIAD tracks live:

Around The World In A Day - performed regularly on the Parade tour and the 3121 Vegas shows

Paisley Park - the odd performance here and there on the ONA tour

Condition Of Heart - one of his staple songs he did in piano medleys on the Lovesexy, NPS and ONA tours

Raspberry Beret - pretty much regular on all his 'hits' tours

Tamborine - can't think of any performances off the top of my head confused

America - the video was a live rendition. It was also played regularly on the Act II tour

Pop Life - performed regularly on the Parade and ONA tours

The Ladder - the odd performance here and there on the ONA tour

Temptation - performed fairly loosely on the Purple Rain tour

Actually, compared to most of his recent albums, the ATWIAD material has been quite prevelant in concert.

I have a couple shows from '86 on this computer (5/23 san francisco and 8/2 new york) but he only does america and raspberry beret. I was also curious because after take me with u he recites the voiceover from temptation.
edit: okay, looks like I have digging to do. I really want to hear the ladder from ONA.

That's not true. He also played "Condition of the Heart", "4 The Tears In Your Eyes" (a 1985 era song), & "Raspberry Beret". Also in the piano segment he also played "Under The Cherry Moon" a couple of times, as a brief instrumental.

"America" was played, just a few times, as an extra encore after "Purple Rain" (which usually ended the show).

I did. He played those ATWIAD songs on the PR tour, not just "America". Check your facts. There are even Orgers who have said they were at a PR show where they heard one of those songs.

ATWIAD B-Sides:

She's Always in My Hair - Prince seemed to have rediscovered this track around 1999, when it was played live a few times. Was it performed prior to this period?

4 The Tears In Your Eyes - Mentioned above. But has it been played since the We Are The World era?

Hello - Has P ever performed this live?

Girl - Has P ever performed this live?

Oh, and oddly enough, just 2 months into the release of Around The World In A Day - at the tail end of the Purple Rain tour, he performed Sometimes It Snows In April.

Prince debuted Raspberry Beret live during the PR tour. I have a recording that I think is from the Cow Palace.

I don't find any of Around the World in a Day bad, let alone hilariously bad. I can understand someone thinking that of the end of Temptation (the God speech), but that song rocks too hard for me to feel that way.

Exactly!

I remember I was working at the workshop listen to the show and all of a sudden from that rhythm John started on drums, Prince start this "Oh my God, there I go, falling in love with a face in a magazine..." and I was WTF? I continued listening and back and again. I guess it's the London Aftershow (Apollo?) And then he jokes to the audience "Just checking".

Your to argumentative kiddo, I never said(show me please) where I said the only ATWIAD song was America? I was talking about what I knew of...and I didn't have to spell all of that out either.

We are not talking abotu 4 the Tears in Your Eyes which is NOT a song from ATWIAD and is very much a part of the PR era musically and historically.
neither is Under the Cherry Moon from ATWIAD
hell he did some lines from Hot Thing during the Parade tour:Head performance

Why are you so defensive, little one? Are you hurt because I laid out some facts?

I pulled my information, sans attitude, from Per Nilsen's DMSR book. Call him if you're upset about being proven wrong. You said:
the Syracuse 1985 show was a Purple Rain tour, America was the only one featured on the PR tour near the end of the tour

You were wrong. I said "that's not true". I don't remember calling you a dick or anything else, like you did - being argumentative, and such.

I listed "4 The Tears In Your Eyes", because 1) it was a 1985 era song, and 2) it was played on the tour as a then-unknown song. #2 was an added piece of information. I listed UTCM as yet another then-unknown song played on a tour a full year earlier (showing Prince was obviously recording new music while on tour).

You'd probably be less offended if you did the homework. I pull a lot of my answers from DMSR when I'm not sure, opposed to just laying out stuff like "the Syracuse 1985 show was a Purple Rain tour, America was the only one featured on the PR tour near the end of the tour " and calling it real.

You know, this isn't a contest to see who knows more Prince trivia. I couldn't care less who knows more. (However, my vote is for Boris Fishpaw or Squirrelgrease, off the top of my head.) You thought you knew something, you stand corrected. "America" wasn't the only ATWIAD song performed on the PR tour. End of story. We've all misspoke at times as well. To simply admit that and move on, it's called being an adult, kiddo.

This is the only show I have with songs from ATWIAD

The only show you have, yet how many dates were on the PR tour? Better yet, since the Feb show was near the end of the show, how many dates came after the one you have there? This many:

24 FEB, 1985 ::::: Inglewood, CA, USA – The Forum
27 FEB, 1985 ::::: Daly City, CA, USA – Cow Palace
28 FEB, 1985 ::::: Daly City, CA, USA – Cow Palace
01 MAR, 1985 ::::: Daly City, CA, USA – Cow Palace
    03 MAR, 1985 ::::: Daly City, CA, USA – Cow Palace (m)
04 MAR, 1985 ::::: Daly City, CA, USA – Cow Palace
05 MAR, 1985 ::::: Daly City, CA, USA – Cow Palace
07 MAR, 1985 ::::: Las Cruces, NM, USA – NMSU Pan Am Center
08 MAR, 1985 ::::: Las Cruces, NM, USA – NMSU Pan Am Center
10 MAR, 1985 ::::: Long Beach, CA, USA – Long Beach Arena
11 MAR, 1985 ::::: Long Beach, CA, USA – Long Beach Arena
12 MAR, 1985 ::::: Long Beach, CA, USA – Long Beach Arena
17 MAR, 1985 ::::: Uniondale, NY, USA – Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum
18 MAR, 1985 ::::: Uniondale, NY, USA – Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum
20 MAR, 1985 ::::: Uniondale, NY, USA – Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum
22 MAR, 1985 ::::: Uniondale, NY, USA – Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum
23 MAR, 1985 ::::: Uniondale, NY, USA – Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum
24 MAR, 1985 ::::: Uniondale, NY, USA – Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum (m)
26 MAR, 1985 ::::: Hartford, CT, USA – Hartford Civic Center
27 MAR, 1985 ::::: Worcester, MA, USA – Worcester Centrum
28 MAR, 1985 ::::: Worcester, MA, USA – Worcester Centrum
30 MAR, 1985 ::::: Syracuse, NY, USA – Carrier Dome
01 APR, 1985 ::::: Indianapolis, IN, USA – Market Square Arena
    03 APR, 1985 ::::: Tallahassee, FL, USA – Tallahassee-Leon County Civic Center
04 APR, 1985 ::::: Lakeland, FL, USA – Lakeland Civic Center
05 APR, 1985 ::::: Lakeland, FL, USA – Lakeland Civic Center
07 APR, 1985 ::::: Miami, FL, USA – Orange Bowl (as 'Purple Bowl Stadium')

And unless anyone can produce setlists for all these shows, it's a safe assumption that he it was during some of these shows that he started to pull out the new songs.
