Not sure about their pitch (I've heard it's a g flat major with an e in the bass) but I have heard from reliable sources that they smell like roses.

that's lucky. Imagine if they smelled of 3121 perfume.

Little known fact. Prince came up with the George Clinton song 'Big Pump' after ordering a tofu jalfrezi and 3 bottles of Kingfisher.

Singing is hardly comparable to playing the piano or a wind instrument. You're constantly sliding from one note to another and what type of phonemes / plosives etc. are involved will impact it a lot. Prince is a rather monotonous singer in his lower register anyway and there's no way in hell the "punky" or "new wavish" stuff that he started doing early on in his career would be considered "pure" singing. Each bent note, each melismatic figure, and so on, travels momentarily "off-key" by definition.

"Perfect pitch" is a moot point in many cases anyway. Even with most brass instruments you get so many overtones that it's sometimes hard to say whether the parts are perfectly tuned with the rest of the instruments or not. Drum hits also have different pitches and they change the overall perception of the entire track. If you've ever used an analog synth, you should know that most of the sounds favoured by artists are detuned to begin with. Synth sounds most often consist of layers of sound where several of the voices are not in tune with the root note. At best, we're always dealing with approximations. Just trust your ears whether it sounds good or not.

Prince is a perfect singer.
his natural voice is not as great as Luther or
Terence Trent but he use his voice with full capacity .
From the low bass notes to the highest falsetto Prince's vocal
range and the way he uses it is amazing .
And Prince never sings a wrong note on concert ,Or maybe he did?
So you ever heard Prince sing off key ?

yes. I've heard him forget the words and sing off key. He's human.

Erik

My favorite screw up is on Saturday Night live, when he sings Electric Chair.
The Lyric is "2 commit the crimes of passion" but he says "to commit the pimes of passion"...
I always thought that was funny.
Its even funnier for Prince to screw up, cause he is always so full of himself and cocky.

I know right. I couldn't get upset over something like that. As far as I know when I've seen him live he didn't sing off key or forget lyrics. But with all the excitement & loud screams & etc, it may have happened but I didn't catch it.

He makes 'small mistakes' in his live performances. And sometimes he avoids this by not singing the 'difficult' part of some of his songs the same way on purpose. He'll change something, 'take the lyrics out', or just change the entire tone of the song to make it easier to perform. This makes it seem more natural when he's performing than when he struggles and doesn't quite 'nail it'.

Aslo, sometimes his voice just doesn't sound good during his live performances. I noticed this for the very first time when he performed "Gett Off" at the MTV music awards. The song doesn't lend itself to a great vocal performance anyways, but even so, his voice just sounded...froggy.

But Prince isn't really a 'singer'. He's so much more. And many of my favorite performers don't even sing as good as Prince. To me it's not how well the sing, as how brilliant their overall art is.

In that regard I don't think I've ever seen a live Prince performance (in real life or bootleg) that wasn't well put together and executed, except maybe Rave Un2 the Year 2000 (that one just felt...off).

It's always sounded, to me, like he was saying "prime(s) of passion".
