Controversy LP

I recently rediscovered this old Prince favorite a few days ago and for some reason the music contained on the disc is hitting me harder than ever. I'm really feeling the synths, bass lines, and guitar riffs contained on the tracks Controversy and Sexuality. We all know the bedroom burner Do Me Baby and the funk workout Let's Work as Prince standards by now, however I really enjoy the little played tracks Private Joy and Jack U Off. The one song that I have finally grown to appreciate is Annie Christian. The electronic beat machine on the track is subtle yet very effective. Moreover the guitar solos, synth work and staggard vocals are used extremely well. I never realized how good an albumControversy was until recently. Unlike some that dismiss it as a sound-a-like album to Dirty Mind or sandwhich album before the monumental 1999, I honestly feel that Controversy is a work of art that has aged well and stands on its own.

No question...I actually prefer Controversy just thismuch over Dirty Mind. Not a weak song on there as far as I'm concerned...ROnnie Talk To Russia is weird Prince but It's GOOD weird Prince as opposed to say "My Little Pill"...BAD done went off Prince!!!

I love Annie Christian problem is it sounds completely out of place on that album and breaks up the flow. I know it like other tracks on there it's a piece of social commentary but somehow it feels like it don't belong. It wouldve made a great outtake as im not sure which Prince album it could belong on really.

I ADORE Controversy. I like it definitely more than Dirty Mind- it's not even close! Controversy hits HARD witht he funk! Unforunately, it will always be underrated.

The album is solid throughout- not a single weak track. Even Ronnie Talk to Russia, which most dismiss as silly, rocks hardcore!

Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

Controversy iz the shit!!That albummgot sooo worn out back in the day!!The Time and Controversy!!!Damn!!"Annie Christian" is straight up burnin'!!!It's both spooky and sexy all at the same time. It's claustraphobic and paranoid and yet,the eeriness of the synth and violin-like guitar lines invite you in like you're standing on the steps of a haunted house with the door swinging wide open and you become paralyzed and seduced by the stark sense of fear and nausea that is so keenly defined that you are almost enraptured in your indecisive breathlessness. You know chances are your mind may never be the same ,but you gotta check this out.Prince made the sound of his uneasy gut a siren song.Crashing on the rocks was never so much fun!

Yeah, I love this whole album, but the first time I heard "annie christian" it kinda creeped me out (probably because of my age) but it grew on me, I still can't listen to it with head phones though. But all in all, it's a great album.
For the people who got it on vinyl, remember the poster that came with it?

I Love the Controversy album. It's a Classic that all Prince fans must work. I love the Title track and Let's Work and Do Me Baby is the absolute Climax. The album is a Great Early work of Prince's.

totally agree Controversy is a class album
whenever i put that into my cd player it seems to stay there for a good few weeks!
The punk funk on sexuality is timeless.
Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!
woot!
