As good as Prince is, he couldn't beat that.

That track is perfection.

That's true. It's such a shame that Jeff died so young.. sad

U ought to have your mouth washed out with soap 4 such a statement! Adore is perfection and I'll put it against any song by any artist barnone!

Georgio was very Prince-esque

(he is also from Minneapolis)

I agree! He was so Prince like that Prince was rude to him when he introduced himself as a lifelong fan of his music.

Interesting how we interpret his "sound", but I have to say there is stuff posted in this thread that doesn't sound close to Prince in any of his many incarnations (to me at any rate).

That said, the Ebonee Webb and Bobby Nunn stuff really hits close to the mark. Glad I clicked on the "Christophe Willem - Trash" link as well... that is a stone Prince tuned Linn drum sound if I ever heard it (and Linn Drums don't just sound like "Prince" when you turn them on... you have to tune and effect the hell out of them first), and the programing and arrangement takes an obvious queue from Prince.
It's almost like there is an "event horizon" for stupidity - once you fall below that line, you're too stupid to know you're stupid.

This has prince all over it!

No disrespect sms130... this is just my opinion... and it goes for more than a few of these posts.

"Prince-esque" should not include samples of Prince's music.

That's just my opinion. I mean... that's not "Prince-esque", that's PRINCE!

Although I respect people like P-Diddy for what they've accomplished, I don't consider a guy who's made a living on sampling other peoples shit, a true artist.

They're just wanna-be's. It's kinda like someone stealing someone elses identity with a credit card. It's bullshit. Not right.

Sure, some of the songs are catchy, but let's not praise "samplers" for having the "GENIOUS" (please see the sarcasm) to take someone else's hit and make money for themselves off of it. To me, that's not talent. That's "paid-for" theft.

Artists like Jesse Johnson... at least he was directly influenced, hence the sound. I think he qualifies... but please... let's omit samplers.

There's nothing talented about them. They're only opportunistic whores... but that's just me.

With all of this being said... this is a FANTASTIC thread. It's opened my eyes up to many other artists who are "Prince-esque" that I'm enjoying listening to now!

A song called Push up by ????? Stereophonic MCs I think. Honestly sexy dancy beat, served up with a convincing falsetto a la Prince c.1986.

This particular track isn't hugely Princely, other than borrowing from When Doves Cry and Automatic a little, the album it's from 'Bangin' The Walls' has tons of Prince rip-off stuff, great album too. cool

I do find Usher's "Do It to me" very Prince-esque.

Other than that, no, Prince is quite the original musician and his musical style is hard to duplicate.

I've looked. I really like that song and must have played it a hundred times. I just don't see any likeness.

Ok then.
But it really remind me of early days' Prince. I think it's a song he could have sing it on any of his first two albums...

my top 'Prince-esque' track is that Pharrell and The Yessirs track 'Baby'. Prince and The Revolution is all over this on. The Time could have recorded this with Jamie Starr. It's a cool track, Questlove makes Pharrell's album version feel like a demo 2 his version.

That is hilarious, I think its a Prince/Rick James Pastiche with a funny 1979 Prince wig and very Princey beat. You have to love the Bar Kays, they have ripped off everyone and every style since the 60s, do they do anything original that dosen't sound like anyone else. (Eg their disco hit, shake your rump to the funk)

Or even the whole thing. It's no secret Beck was trying to make a Prince record. He has said so himself in multiple interviews. I think he did a reasonably good job too. 'Debra' is totally a standout track though.
