Apparently, Sabotage are releasing an updated version of City Lights... Coming in 3 slices this year (2010) from Sabotage Records:
P R I N C E C I T Y L I G H T S R E M A S T E R E D & E X T E N D E D 15 years after the classic 1995 “C i t y L i g h t s“ release by Superhero Records, the 11 original soundboard discs are finally presented in improved and completed form! The new limited edition S a b o t a g e R e c o r d s box set will cover a whole decade systematically: It roughly contains one volume from each of Prince’s concert tours 1980 through 1989. That’s 7 volumes of 3 to 6 discs each and 7 booklets of 24 pages each with literally hundreds of rare pictures and the best liner notes ever! All recordings by Prince, Sheila E., The Time & Vanity 6 remastered and completed from the best sources. All discs now featuring CD-Text. This may or may not be a hoax. Not on Bart's part, but one that's being perpetuated around cybertown. I guess we'll see. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Bart, thanks for the update.
Mr. P could have released these himself -in pristine quality- in the time since the original City Lights hit the market. He didn't. Not even to celebaret a career of 25 or 30 years. Not even a subset of CL. So he is not interested, except in litigation. (now what is easier?) So now I can start saving some euros that will not go his way. Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

They run it by Prince first. I remember buying this in about 1996, it was about £80-90 Thank God for .flac!

The thing is only bootleggers can deliver such a package right now. If P did a project as big as this it would not shift in any great quanity aside from diehards buying it. Likewise if he did it digitally and reduced his costs again the effort put in vs the units sold I doubt would add up. Most importantly, given his faith , he would not re-release anything contrary to his faith i.e. Dirty Mind etc. So Sab and the rest have a great niche here where die hards are desperate for great products and P has neither the time , inclination or commercial sense to fill the gap.
If P don't like it then only HE can change it.

Cool can't wait! Yes, at 19, I finally saw the Revolution, a legendary band. And I talked to Wendy!!! In addition to seeing Prince, I have now lived life. Thank you Purple People!!

You forget to mention that back then the english pound was much heavier than it is today. Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

Bullcrap. Examples of similar sets: http://www.amazon.com/Com...B000UEIGB6 http://www.rollingstone.c...ollection/ These kind of things are the bread & butter of labels like Rhino Handmade. funkyhead said: If P did a project as big as this it would not shift in any great quanity aside from diehards buying it.
So? STOP THINKING IN OLD MODELS. It's not about scoring a hit, it's about connecting with your fans. It's about providing a service. It's about moneytizing your archives and pleasing a lot of people at the same time. Hell, even today there are plenty of artists who release EACH concert on CD. Why doesn't Prince? What's holding him back to release every one of the Monaco gigs? Of the Paris gigs? © Bart Van Hemelen

What's holding him back to release every one of the Monaco gigs? Of the Paris gigs? ease up there!- the first quote you pick up on is wrong - my point is that P simply cannot be bothered to do such a project hence why bootleggers will fill the gap. As for 'not thinking in old models' that as you would say is also bullcrap in the context of prince - like he really gives a toss about connecting with fans, if he ain't gonna make big $ upfront, if he doesn't stand a chance of getting in the charts and if there's the slightest note out of tune he will not do it. Like it or not P is now an old school conservative who cannot/will not fathom the limitless potential of the net. Likewise he has the most screwed up commercial thinking know to man - that said there will always be another sucker like Target or Sony who will give hima one off deal only to get burned further down the line!.

Also...if this is remastered and extended, where's the Jan 85 Purple Rain show from Atlanta? I think there are a few others missing too.

Are they finally gonna release a "Complete" soundboard concert from this era? Their SOTT boot was just a copy from Wonderboy and 4 Those of U on Valium! [Edited 2/2/10 20:04pm]

I think squirrelgrease is onto something...HOAX! Supposedly the other volumes haven't been finalized. That said, the announcement flyer that has been associated with this new City Lights release looks nothing like their past flyers (it looks like a Word.doc), which adds to the suspicion that this is not real. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

The original City Lights volumes released on Superhero records was the first comprehensive all soundboard/video sourced collection of Prince's tour history. At the time, it was the bootleg to get... by hook or by crook.
