I've always thought that BatDance was inspired by Flash.
They both have samples from the movies, and the vocals are more to connect the samples rather than being the focus of the song.

Yes he is! I saw a scan of an interview from 1985/6 from a a manager of a hotel Prince stayed at for a while. He said something along the lines of "he would sit in his hotel room living off popcorn & pasta watching Queen videos"

I don't think Prince necessarily had his ear to white radio as much as people think, especially in the 70's. There are always going to be rock stars that dress alike. It just happens. Prince wasn't even aware of the huge success of Bob Seger until Matt Fink allegedly told him about needing a song like Bob's (ergo "Purple Rain").

Efan said: Queen was pretty big in America. I would assume Prince was a fan. Two more examples are that he did a snippet of one of their songs in the Super Bowl performance and Sheila E.'s Merci for the Speed of a Mad Clown in Summer has a sound sample the same as an intro to a Queen album.

But Prince was aware and exposed to white radio more then black .(because only
2 % of the population in Minneapolis were black) most of the stations at the time were playing Classic rock . Prince had to search for Black music. one of Prince's favorite bands was Grand Funk Railroad

bass line from that song is the blue print of Another One bites the dust Correction on Grandmaster Flash's 1981 "Adventures On The Wheels Of Steel" he used Another One Bites The Dust , Good Times , Rapture , 8th Wonder and a lot of other shit. But he spun and scratched Another One Bites The Dust.... True. "open your heart, open your mind

Queen was popular in the US throughout the 70's...and then The Game I think was their most successful album in the US. However, after that their popularity here definitely slid. . To keep it all in perspective Prince would have heard Queen. If you were alive in the 70/80s in the U.S. it would have been very hard to miss Queen. 70s and early 80s they were big...not until WW after that...again, in the US. Worldwide they were always huge. I almost guarantee Prince was a fan since 3 Chains o Gold is directly influenced by Bohemian Rhapsody. No question there...but I was referring to the general popularity of Queen after The Game. Queen's pop definitely slid in the US after that. Believe me I was one of the few fans around at the time and got a LOT of crap for liking them.

I'm not sure if any of you have heard of a concert called Live Aid? I doubt you could name any other band / artist that stole the show like Queen did?
They were massive all over the world, including the USA. There can't be too many people that can't name at least 10 Queen hits?!?!?! As a quick side note, did you know MJ sang with Freddy pre Thriller? They wanted to release a song together but it never transpired!

I think Live Aid performance is very overrated ,yes they were the best that nite but it's not up to Queen standard
they were the best when they were young and hungry like here: http://www.youtube.com/wa...DzEGqY33B8 or here: http://www.youtube.com/wa...9PJ2uxiUGc

Trust me alot of Prince's virtuosity stems from growing up here and being exposed to rock radio in the 70's. As an african american who grew up "finding" the funk in champaign illinois it was hard to avoid how fucking hot them cats were. Many brotha's who detested our situation ( having to wait for R&B to be played 1hour a week on local radio and still missing the new jams) knew and loved Queen. Put it this way, Queen was bumpin from a lot of of boombox's back in the day and they are all over my ipod.

'A Night At the Opera' is without doubt the most amazing thing I've ever heard.
Quite literally changed my life. ....Still gives me goose bumps. As far as Prince goes, I'm sure he is a fan, however I think you'd be hard pressed to get him to admit it.
