Prince at the Rock and ROll HAll of Fame This is not breaking news but....
Just wanted to know if people have commented on PRince's disgraceful petulance at the end of his excellent guitar solo on the While MY Guitar Gently Weeps tribute to George Harrison. He drops his guitar on the stage and walks off without a word while Paul Mccartney and other music greats are still on it. What a shame such great talent was wasted on such a petulant, self obsessed bloke... and his fans have had a decade of mostly self-indulgent music as a result. Oh the shame the shame!!!!

Because he's a self-absorbed, wacko-ass, douchebag...
But that is blasphemy, you know. We will not go to purple heaven, now.

I believe they asked Prince to do something special, right? Either way, I thought it was great. It was during one of those very brief moments in Prince's career where there wasn't anything hokie in the news about him.

(Oh ... and 4. he didn't drop his guitar on the stage - he threw it in the air, and it was caught off camera by his guitar technician). ALT+PLS+RTN: Pure as a pane of ice. It's a gift.

I can see why some people will see it as Prince playing the arrogant rock star, seemingly stealing the limelight and upstaging his peers ... but the RnRHOF group song was there for them all to put on a performance. Prince had been inaugarated along with a host of other recognised musicians, and he had been asked to cameo with a guitar solo to round off the song, so he tore it up in true rock fashion with a bit of panache. The reaction on the day was the assembled cast of musicians enjoyed the moment and the audience loved it.
(And, yest, TheVoid, Dhani said he wanted to hug Prince). . [Edited 1/24/10 10:38am] ALT+PLS+RTN: Pure as a pane of ice. It's a gift.

Tossing his guitar in the air was a great way to finish a great solo. I remember there was a quote from George's son in Rolling Stone after this performance where he said he wanted to hang out with that guy(Prince). He also said something about the both of them being the same size.
The day after this aired, there were people approaching me from different departments in my place of work.( I was known as The Prince Fan) I recall several people saying' "Damn I did not know he could play like that." They also thought that the tossing of the guitar was cool.

That was one of THE classic Prince/guitar moments and highly revered by most..including those involved.
If it was so disgraceful, why did the R&R Hall of Fame put it on their Live/Best of DVD? "New Power slide...."

You're about 6 years late.
The only opinion on this subject that matters is George's family, and his son Dani who was on stage with him loved it!!! Tom Petty loved it too, and said one of the reasons why he did the Superbowl Half Time Show was because he talked to Prince about it. So please shut up and don't bring that weak shit in here!!! JERKIN' EVERYTHING IN SIGHT!!!!!

If it was so disgraceful, why did the R&R Hall of Fame put it on their Live/Best of DVD? THe performance was exceptional, that's not the point...but his arrogant throwing of his guitar and strutting off stage, as if to say: "I own all your aSSES" when Paul Mccartney (unless the white bloke playing piano on the left of the stage is a look alike) and other musicians are also playing on a tribute for GEORGE HARRISON (hint: it aint supposed to be Prince's moment) is utterly pathetic... The fact that he gets away with it because of the quality of his playing is not the point...the bloke lacks class and humility and shows it during a tribute to a late great artist. Period. And on that note: THECHIEF...you get a life mate..you're the one who is posting nothing but invective and 'blahs' rather than making a thoughtful comment... Nuff Said....

I see your point, but disagree. It was a very Rock N' Roll move to do it, and no one involved felt disrespected as far as I can tell. You are right that it was a tribute to Harrison, but it was Prince's night overall. That's how Vh1 and the Hall of Fame presented it anyways. I thought it was cocky, arrogant, and very Prince. He owned that moment. "New Power slide...."

It was Prince's one time chance to be recognized by his peers as being a GREAT musician and not just a recording artist and performer, and I believed he accomplished that. So if you think he said "screw u" at the end, then you need to look at that again and keep what I just said in mind.

To add to this: according to a recent piece in Rolling Stone, that solo had been rehearsed beforehand. Everyone there knew what was coming, though Tom Petty was quoted as saying that he thinks Prince held a little of the fireworks back for the actual performance.

Sorry, that was one of the greatest walk-offs ever.
He is Prince, he is a Rock Star and I would not want him any different. Watch the clip carefully. Dhani's body language completely changes when P comes in. He starts getting into the song a lot more and he has this huge grin on his face. If anything I thought the lean back into the roadie was cheese.

Newflash! Prince is arrogant, scene stealing and competitive. It was a clapton solo, given to a man petty enough to call out Johnny Lang when he's playing the blues lol. Come on now, are we the least bit surprised he wants to wreck every fuckin stage he steps on after all of this time?.
