Purple and Gold Part II

Part I is here: http://prince.org/msg/7/328576

There are some not to be missed posts in that one, Let's continue that trend over here.

http://www.vikings.com/me...36975dd042

the veil of the sky draws open
the roar of the chariots touch down
we r the ones who have now come again
and walk upon water like solid ground
as we approach the throne we won't bow down
this time we won't b denied

raise every voice and let it b known
in the name of the purple and gold

we come in the name of the purple and gold
all of the odds r in r favor
no prediction 2 bold
we r the truth if the truth can b told
long reign the purple and gold

the eyes say ready 4 battle
no need 4 sword in hand
we r all amped up like a rock n roll band
ready 2 celebrate every score
ready 2 fight the elegant war
ready 2 hear the crowd roar

that's what we came 4
and so much more
in the name of the purple and gold

r spirits may b tired
r bodies may b worn
but since this day is r destiny
r history – that's y we must b
4ever strong as the wind that blows the Vikings' horn
in the name of the purple and gold
Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it.

I read all 1017 comments on the first thread. (Yes, really.)

It took some time, but I did it. I laughed. I cried. I have some new favorite posters. I rethunk my position.

I'm still disappointed immensely, and I've already made what I feel are valid comments.

So why am I still here reading and posting?

Because I wish the song was better... and I want to make sure that I'm not just on some "hate" bandwagon.

I don't HATE the song. I just wish Prince hadn't gone public with it, thus allowing the whole world to hate it, and lose any respect they may have had for him. This is the same man who wrote the kickass Little Red Corvette and Housequake, for Heaven's sake!

He can sing and do what he wants, and with guidance, this song could have been THE BOMB as well!

Prince lives in his own Neverland Ranch. This is his reality. We're not surprised that he would come up with a song like this. It's very "Paisley Park meets Grafitti Bridge meets I Love U but I Don't Trust U Anymore, meets Peter Pan singing Diamonds and Pearls with flutes with too much time on his hands.

We're just disappointed that it's public, and that he would relate such a song like this to NFL-MASCULINE HARD-HITTING TESTOSTERONE-BASED football!

So I'm done commenting. For now. Maybe.

But Prince needs to learn that some of his creations need to be kept to himself... hence the vault.

Maybe Warner Brothers was right all along, in that respect.

SLAVE THAT, Prince. And get over yourself.
The public is squeezin' you kiddo. You'd better kick ass on your next album or else!

Who said it is supposed to be a stadium anthem? Prince is a genius beyond the comprehension of many low brow consumers so if it is loss on the knuckle dragging muscially illiterate majority, so be it. No one rocks like Prince - no one.

Well, let me see...

It's supposed to be a fight song. For a football team called the Minnesota Vikings. That Prince himself said he wrote after being inspired in a stadium, at a playoff game, last week that was filled to capacity with the knuckle dragging musically illiterate majority, as you called them.

Whatever could we be thinking?
I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

granted.

i'd bet money he goes into stubborn mode on this one though. he won't make changes because that would be admitting that everyone is right about the song.

writers are generally like that. i can't tell you how many writers have asked me to look over their scripts and to be honest, then gotten stubborn and locked down when i tell them the truth. thank god i don't have that kind of ego about my stuff. i'm actually the opposite. compliments make me uncomfortable, and i mostly want to hear criticism.

2elijah said:

Well, seeing how the reaction was to the song publically, maybe he might put his stubborness on the shelf, and make a few changes.

Babynoz said:

Well he told Tavis that he doesn't mind criticism when he can learn something from it, so I've given my suggestions. lol

I'm laughing at 2freaky for suggesting the song will end his career...it won't significantly impact his standing with the GP one way or the other. lol
[Edited 1/23/10 16:07pm]

(bolded part) Well, we know that will not happen. lol

Wow...umm... wow. Hmmm... Scratching my head..

Keep in mind.. I didn't pay to hear this song. Had I, I'd be a bit irritated. It's umm.. it's cute. Not a sports fan here, but a cute song for a "fight song" umm.. not sure how that works out but..
I definitely don't feel if you're a fan you should drink the purple kool-aid so to speak and blindly say everything he makes is the best.. If he doesn't have ups and downs the highs aren't so high. This was.. interesting. He just wanted to do something fun to show his love for his team. As some of my southern friends might say.. "well bless his heart!".

Back to..
"We are the bears, shufflin crew.. shufflin on down..doin it for you..."

Hey People... it could have been worse!

To the tune of Wedding Feast

Brett dear Brett, I blocked as quickly as I could
The offensive line has broken
The passing attack is gone for good
Gone for good

And now there must be some rushing (rushhhhhing)
Now we must rush the beast

The beast
The beast
Adrian Peterson’s the Beast
A draw, off tackle
He’ll get 6 yards at least

Not just a gain of chitlins
Or no yardage you see
He wears 28
So you mustn’t masturbate
We’ll win the game by 3

Unless he blooooows
The public is squeezin' you kiddo. You'd better kick ass on your next album or else!

I just listened to it again. You know, the exact same song might not be half as bad if a real band that knows how to do proper fist pumping anthems would have done it. (I'm picturing Cheap Trick here - they wrote the book on this.) But Prince of course has to do his standard Prince production with his childish little synth bits and flute sounds - not to mention his cute little falsetto voice. The dude is just such a flake. Thinking he should cook this up for FOOTBALL fans. How out of touch can you be? disbelief

dude, it's a song about a football team! And I strongly feel his genius is going to be lost on all the cavemen, because he has no idea how to communicate with the unwashed masses anymore. He might be better suited writing music for ice skating competitions, seriously.

It is my great hope that tomorrow a fully realized version will play and it will be great. I REALLY want that, but I am not confident in that happening.

I keep trying to run arrangements in my head and it's just too clunky.

To the tune of Animal Kindom

I saw a team of mine todaaaaay
In a game playin', hoping they would do goooood

I told 'em stop wastin' time, I saaaaay
If God wanted ya'll to win the Super Bowl
You'd suck the breast of a Jehovah's Witnesses like ya shooould

No member of the Minnesota Vikings
Worships any deity
No member of the Minnesota Vikings
Fornicates without securityyyyy

So we'll score in the red zone and and won't miss
With our opportunities
We're all members of the Minnesota Vikings
