I just listened to it for the first time. I really can't understand what the fuss is about. I agree with many it can use a remix or something like that, but I really don't think it's horrible. What's horrible is most of the stuff that's played on the radio these days by other artist. If R Kelly would have done Purple and Gold people probably would have called it genious.

The answer to your question is that there is no "fuss". People are simply cracking jokes about one song that they don't care for...that's about it.

I think most of us agree that his music is far superior to anything on the radio...that much is obvious, but if people don't like something they just don't like it and no amount of lecturing, chastising, pontificating or long drawn out explanations of the dynamics of the song is going to stop anyone from cracking jokes about it.

Not saying you're doing that...just saying that all these hurt feelings on Prince's behalf are unnecessary because like I said earlier, this one apparent mishap isn't going to end his career. The next time he steps onto a stage he will rule it like the badass that he is.

Prince is getting ribbed a little...Lord knows it's not the first time and he'll survive and thrive like he always does.

Exactly, the harsh criticism from orgers here will never have the power to ruin his longtime career. Babynoz, is right. The next time he steps on to the stage, he will rule it with his crown on, and the same ones cracking jokes and harshly criticizing this particular song, will more than likely be some of the first ones rushing to get a ticket to see him perform at future shows. This is not the first time Prince has been criticized harshly over a song, yet he still manages to be a respected musician by many. That's something no one on this site will ever manage to take away from him. So he'll be fine, this is just another hurdle he'll get over.

Possibly the worst Prince song ever. Hopefully it'll turn out to be a massive joke done by some low-rent Prince impersonator

But fuck me that track is a steaming turd, and you can bet your ass he won't have the brass bollocks to stand up and play it! Can you imagine it at an after show??? I'd be rolling about laughing hard at that - He would have to put on a football helmet to protect himself from the bottles!

It's still on the Vikings website, but not for long when the Saints stomp down the pompous Bret Favre.

I wonder how much they paid Prince for the song. I can see real old folks liking this song. This is the kind of song you heard in the 60s, the kind of conservative fight song you would hear in some movie like Rudy..lol

I know what Prince is doing. He wants old timers to be fans. You will now see old guys with golf pants and walkers singin Sexy MF on the links. A deft strategy, oh purple one.

Honestly, I don't believe most people are trying to be mean, they're just kidding around about an odd song and some of the jokes are really funny. But his self appointed defenders are acting like they think Prince must be sitting in a corner somewhere, hugging himself or sucking his thumb and rocking back and forth in distress. He's not! lol

But check this out...I was right down there on the field with Prince at the Superbowl and kids who barely knew anything about him were standing there with their little mouths hanging open in awe of the man. That's why I know Prince don't need no defending. cool

Can you imagine it being played in the football stadium? It would be the second time Prince got booed in a stadium except this time he would deserve it. lol

I'm going to watch the Vikings vs. Saints game today, to see if they actually are gutsy enough to play "Purple and Gold" during the game. Not sure if they will, since according to what I just saw in the paper, the game is going to be in Louisiana. Even if they don't play it, I'm curious to see if the commentors during the game mention it.

You should probably watch the pre-game sis. That'll be your best chance to hear about it. I doubt there will be much side talk once the game starts unless P actually shows up.

nod You're absolutely right about watching the pre-game to see if they talk about "Purple and Gold", I was thinking the same thing earlier today.

I don't think they paid him, I think they were as surprised by his gesture as the rest of us. One sportscaster said that Prince was in the legendary Bud Grant's private suite...wow! I thought it was a regular sky box next to 'ol coach Bud's.

(Bolded part) Well, we know that's not true. lol He's faced harsh criticism from the public before during his career, so this is no different for him. Bad song or not, it got a lot of folks taking time from their day to come here and on other sites and give their comments on it. But like you said, from your experience from that Superbowl he played at, when he gets on stage, he still rules. So at the end of the day...Prince still wears his crown.

Girl, I soooo wish you could have been there to see it. This one little girl maybe 14 or 15 completely forgot she was supposed to be dancing and just stood there staring at him! LOL! It was so funny to look around and see all these kids get blown away like that. lol And the FAMU kids? Forget it! They were beside themselves with pride...good times, I tell ya.

That's why I'm laughing...our Prince ain't exactly some little wallflower. He's pretty tough, especially after 30 plus years of swimming with those sharks in the music biz. cool

To Me it sounds like one of those old College Fight Songs.
You know like "hail to old Mississipp" LOL
Not exactly the type of song I would get excited about cheering
at a game for..... but I think the thought was kinda cute and
I think its great that Prince is showing his love for FOOTBALL.
(game comes on in about 2 1/2 hours.. GO VIKINGS!!)

Now, I was hoping Prince would do something with the Haiti thing too
but ya know. he MAY of given money.
he gives alot of money to charities that we have NO idea about.....

Lets hope that this new little ditty inspires Mr. Nelson to put out
another REAL CD! wink

I actualy like this fight anthem. In fact, I played it over and over. Now their are some who say that the U.S. National Anthem is trash musically but it means so much to all its' citizens. If the Vikes win the SuperBowl this anthem could have a special place in the fans' heart. I think everyone is taking this way too seriously anyway. It's not like every single song or anthem he composes is going to be the second coming og "When doves Cry".

There are some not to be missed posts in that one, Let's continue that trend over here.

http://www.vikings.com/me...36975dd042

the veil of the sky draws open
the roar of the chariots touch down
we r the ones who have now come again
and walk upon water like solid ground
as we approach the throne we won't bow down
this time we won't b denied

raise every voice and let it b known
in the name of the purple and gold

we come in the name of the purple and gold
all of the odds r in r favor
no prediction 2 bold
we r the truth if the truth can b told
long reign the purple and gold

the eyes say ready 4 battle
no need 4 sword in hand
we r all amped up like a rock n roll band
ready 2 celebrate every score
ready 2 fight the elegant war
ready 2 hear the crowd roar

that's what we came 4
and so much more
in the name of the purple and gold

r spirits may b tired
r bodies may b worn
but since this day is r destiny
r history – that's y we must b
4ever strong as the wind that blows the Vikings' horn
in the name of the purple and gold

If this song is any indication of how the 2010's are gonna sound for Prince, we're in serious trouble lol lol lol
