Great song!
I love it when Prince gets melodic! And this sounds old school. First thing I thought of when I heard it was Teacher Teacher! YAY MPLSOUND

Those keyboards sound Doors-like.
Had Jim Morrison been a happy soul, he'd have made this. And that's precisely whats wrong with it. "Had to get off the boat so I could walk on water..."

It's OK, it suffers from that awkward phrasing that Prince's recent lyrics have often suffered from (see also: Guitar, The 1 U Wanna C).
The keyboards are fun, they are an obvious (maybe too obvious) nod towards the 85/86 era. . [Edited 1/26/10 7:07am]

I like it!
I really like "All The Midnights in the World" too though. I always like Prince's short, sweet, sing-s-long songs like that though. He's really good at them.

I love it. Should have been on the retail release. It's got that playful Monkees style pop with a dash of 1985 Prince. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

I love the song... Crimson and Clover fits best within the album yes, but this is a lovely track that reminds me of Teacher Teacher. If anything he used the same exact keyboard tone int he background as Teacher Teacher, just played diffrently. Straight Jacket Funk Affair
Album plays and love for vinyl records.

I am sucker for his 'melodious pop' offerings (When you were mine, Raspberry Beret, Starfish and Coffee, Glam Slam, Dolphin etc.), but i am underwhelmed by the Morning After.
I take 'All the Midnights in the world' over it: a recent song in the same vein, but with better melody lines and better lyrics.

Yea!!
Great track. It would have been nice to have kept it aside for a little experiment however: ...Copy it to an analogue tape for 5 or 6 generations, until it's scratchy and the EQ has been well and truly skewed. Release it via a paper bag out the back door of the Park, with nothing more than a tiny note reading '1985'. Then let the hypocritical fawning begin. "...See, this is classic Prince. Great melody, brilliant phrasing. Shame he's not capable of that any more..." But of course the real fans would instantly see straight through such a ruse. ![]()

It was on the download version of Lotusflow3r instead of "Crimson and Clover". Of course you will need to spend $77 to get it ![]() Making love and music are the only things worth fighting for.
