Black Album is California album(Cali influenced)

Some Girls by The Rolliing Stones ( worship ) was about and influenced by New York. "..out of all the women in New York" on Just My Imagination, "my brians are splattered all over..Manhattan..go head..bit the Big Apple.."-Shattered..." ..crazy to stay, Id be afag in New York.." When The Whip Comes Down .."Miss You" studio 54 anthemish type song for disco etc...well The Black album sems Californai influenced.

Super Califragisexy

Two Nigs United for West Compton

Bob George gangster-ism

Dead On It..a dig at rappers but with a California rap feel or subject imho

The whole cd sems dark and gangtser rap influenced Ice T style ( who was the big thing then, and NWA) etc.( Bob George).

It has been said in print that it was a precursor to the myriad of California gangtser rap that follwed. Not saying rap followed Prince lol but that he took it there with the Bob George scenario

Rock hard In A Funky Place has California top down cruising written all over it.

Not sure you're argument holds water about the "Black Album" ... or "Some Girls". All off Jagger's songs on the Stones albums from 1973 to 1983 have a New York connection. Things changed when he settled down with Jerry in Richmond, Surrey. Play 'em all and you will see.

This is true. The Black Album is about Californication.I read an intervie with Prince in Liars and Legends were he admitted that California is the only place he'd record an album about then try to destroy any remnants of the darn thing.

Some Girls is WIDELY known to have a NY influence..( "it's about NY after all" -RS) They were jet set New Yorkers at that time. Not saying that they never enjoyed the Apple but Some Girls is where they blatantly mentioned and used the New York state of mind in their songs and lyrics. Jagger had recently bought an apartment there the previous year etc etc

The criticism Prince received in 1987, for not being cutting edge Black music anymore due to the impact of Rap, was a striking force for the album's conception.

With Dead On It, and the criticism of low education/low income Black men Bob George (and possibly the title of 2 Nigs), Prince could well have been thinking of California, or the people from there, who the criticism about losing his edge were based on.

He was P.O's about the critcs view, I've read in DMSR, Uptown, yadda, yadda.

Maybe that's why he pulled the release, because it was borne out of such a negative state of mind, revenge and self-doubt, fear.

Anyone notice on the Warner Brothers version...

On the FIRST fade out prince says..

"keep your finger on the trigga, thats the way it gets
bigga"!

On the second fade in & out he says...

"What the Fuc% kinda ending is that?"

WOW!...New favorite lines!

The Black Album ='s LOL & FUNK !

& thats 2 of the things I like/love about PRINCE.
